Praise Mutt
I've just recently found Mutt and I don't seem to have any option to praise him.
I just want to tell him he's a good boy from time to time, can't you do that in KCD2 ?

Stand in front of him. Sides don't seem to work, also make sure he's not actively doing something. That something can be mundane digging animation. If you feed him that'll always break what he was doing and then you can pet after he eats.

Is it a L Alt option or with E (which never seems to do anything so far)?
You need to be directly in front of him. V is the default for me. For some reason you can't praise him on the side.

If you have just found him that's normal. As far as i remember you have to sleep a night or two until the normal interface gets unlocked.

I use a controller 99.99% of the time. It'll tell you on the bottom corner of the screen though. Even when you can't it'll be greyed out telling you

Thank you, I'll get directly in front of him and see if it gives me the option to press V !
Thank you all for the answers!
I'm sure I'll manage to do it with your helpful advice.
He moves around less the higher his obedience score is but as others have said, feed him to make sure he's facing you and spam the 'Praise' key immediately after/during his eating animation. You can usually get two good ear scritches in before he romps away again.

Also make sure he is set to "Heel" behavior in towns. I'm not sure what causes it (maybe it's a simple timer based on obedience score,) but Mutt will often revert to his "Free" state and guaranteed will get villagers complaining. While in "Heel" he is supposed to follow behind you, but I think this only reduces his wandering radius.

Good advice, I'm taking it all in.

I was an elite houndmaster in KCD1 but this is a little different.

Soon as I hit level 30 in houndmaster I dumped him at Devil's Den.

I'm going to keep Mutt no matter how irritating he is.
I can always tell him to 'stay' somewhere if I have to do something where he'd get in the way and I like having a dog around most of the time.
Dont wanna say that out loud...
But i could understand Eric... what he did

Tell him to stay then you can praise him all you want he doesn't move.

Beware! There is a funny (but very annoying) Easter egg where you can get cursed by the Cat Lady and have random cat jumpscares added to your playthrough when Henry enters an idling animation.
