Dog Tips?
The dog is unironically my most hated part of the game.

He ruins combat combos, and gets in the way of attacks. He ruins stealth unless you constantly command him around. He's noisy as hell when you're just trying to listen in stealth-like scenarios. None of his perks seem to be all that helpful.

Am I missing something, or is he really just a four legged debuff?

Kinda starting to think the same way to be honest.

Like you said he gets in the way during fights and barks when you're trying to be stealthy. I have to constantly tell him to stay and on top of it all, keep him fed. I sent the nuisance home a few times, but now I'm thinking what's the point of having him around at all.

Glad i'm not going nuts, all i've seen it praise for him, but i'm starting to think it's just people roleplaying online. Thanks for the response.

Send him away. He was added in the original game by a DLC so Theresa could survive A Woman's Lot because she couldn't really do melee combat. He's an unnecessary half-baked addition for everything else.

It's beyond a shame we get the debuff dog instead of our true wife.
Ill try to make this quick so I can convince you faster.

The dog is fantastic. It leverages you from a 1v4 to a 1v2 in terms of power scale (a 1v3 would then be a equal to 1v1).

tldr: feed and praise the dog when henry gets hungry. maximize combat related xp through "kite" tactics against the last enemy and "sic" to finish them.

NTLDR- In order to maximize, it is best to run around on foot with the dog and feed it when Henry gets hungry. It almost seems intentional that in order to get the "praise" option you have to get him to sit still by using the option give him food. When in a fight be dynamic. Try to use the dog as the tip of the spear. Whenever someone turns away from you to hit the dog you hit them. Since the dog moves so much (you remember the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ wolves right???) you will get free hits.

This all snowballs with the perks. Mutt was OP before I got to the wedding. Still easier to fight with him than to 1v1 someone.

When in a fight either keep him from wanting to be involved before, or "sic" him with strategy on opponents. Basically just make sure that whoever he distracts first you hit and then try to think of the dog as the tip of the spear. Whenever someone turns away from you to hit the dog you hit them. Is there an argument you have for the dog that doesn't involve combat? I find mass combat significantly EASIER without him, he is a genuine detriment on the battlefield for me, unironically. The only time he has a chance to be a positive effect on the battlefield is when you're fighting on an entirely flat plane, and even then he is only marginally useful for a few seconds at a time, and only if he's attacking an opponent while not being near you, otherwise his spacing forces you to either miss or hit him instead.

Mutt gets one shot by a random bandit and runs away. He doesn't help at all.
Dog is as useless as the main story line. Totally useless DEI trash.

No, he's typically just getting one shot by me because he's always in the way whenever he's "helping".

Could be worse, could be a cat.

Would vastly prefer a cat in this scenario.

Dogs are SOOOO DEI
Outside of combat the dog will either make things faster when looking for things (he will bark straight at the final hidden objective in an area with a high enough level) or for hunting (runs all your prey down and you dont have to search).

I guess you miss how powerful he is in combat? Every time he distracts someone thats free hits.

best mutt feature is when you're doing alchemy and he walks into you, lifting you 3 feet off the ground and making you completely unable to continue, forcing you to back out of the alchemy table, lose all your progress, and make you send him away if you even wanna consider synthesizing a potion

I find that he just makes combat more difficult for me.
