Attacked by enemies while riding with Hans to Nebakov

I was riding with Hans, deciding not to use the fast travel and while riding there, I suddenly get attacked by a group of bandits and a beggar monk, the monk was acting as bait. This is weird because Hans doesn't help me when I get attacked and he just moves on. So I died because Hans would leave me behind.

So I tested something out, I decided to go ahead from Hans to the spot where they ambush you and there is no one there, I wait until Hans comes looking back to see him arrive. And suddenly they spawn, i see the bait beggar monk pretending to beg on the path??? So this is like a scripted event for when Hans arrives? Luckily i was ahead so i didn't aggro them. It is kinda weird and needs fixing.

It's to do with a guy named Canker.

He's tied to the Gules questline.

His thing is disguising himself as a beggar monk and his minions do it too.

Get rid of him and it stops. Nothing to do with Hans.

Had the same issue - I started the Canker quest line and didn't finish it before the wedding. Quite hilarious to get swarmed by 5 bandits while Hans merrily rides on. Also they were quite buggy; i could kite Canker away, kill him and his men were just standing there. Finished them off with a bow and arrow.

This definitely needs to be fixed to not trigger when riding through with Hans!
