You can do potions you don't have the recipe (cheat) !
Just use the recipe from internet resources, it'll make the potion and learn you the recipe !
Sure it's kinda cheat, but neat
You can also do by trial and error and discover them without cheating, but it's kinda long , you'll get nothing most of the time, as the recipes are often complicated

Be happy... I always have to block these tips videos... oh yeah...

But hey... it's nice that you're trying to figure it out for yourself. That's the best and most rewarding method!

Can you actually experiment? I mean I know you can learn recipes by just reading them off the internet and brew them.
I mean the process of discovery. How would you even go about it?
You could do that in the first game.

In fact I did it on accident once.

+++ to all above and one more thing - it's not a cheat, it's normal game's mechanics, recipes can be learned or discovered that way, even basic in-game manual says so.

I am still not making you ujnderstand what I mean.
I am not doubting that you can discover recipes, I am questioning the efficiency of brute forcing discoveries.

nobody bruteforced kcd2 potions when you have recipes from 1 as a base, they are bound to work at some capacity. and they do. because rpg. because it makes sense.

You can, you will end up with a strange potion. Probably best not to drink it though.

It gives xp for scholar and speech (noticed by gaining a level from learning a recipe).
Technically Henry could be (and probably was) a master autobrewing alchemist in the first game.
For plot reasons it is not elaborated why has been bonked in the head so hard he forgot how to brew all of those thousands and thousands of potions being the foundation of the Big Pharma empire he keeps awfully secret about. Dr. Henry probably knows that vaccines are fake and only injects microchips and climate change reagents. Yeah, they knew that even in medieval Bohemia you pheasants!!!!

Not at all, the recipes are waaaaaaaay too specific for someone to just blindly do them.

They tell you right at the start that the reason all of Henry's skills drop at the start of the game (They're all higher if you look) is because he was shot by an arrow, half drowned and fell off a mountain while fighting a bandit, you know that entire start sequence? They explain that it will take Henry time to recover and get back to what he was skill wise,

Depends how many gazillion potions he brew in game one. He didn't get bonked in the head by the arrow. It's just your tried, trite and tested Amenesia plot device for part 2 of the journey.
