And in some cases the game even catches you up on things, especially if it is about things you can choose in the first game
Like at one point you are being asked about Theresia and your choices are all the relationship choices you can make in first game and so walks you through the questline in a short choose your own adventure style story
I will say I was surprised to see an obscure reference to an optional side quest in KCD 2 which I got having done that particular side quest in KCD, but I was thinking I wouldn't have quite gotten the reference without playing KCD.
