So swords are just... Better.
While you can argue that the different weapons are better at different things and to an extent you're right. Swords having master strike just make them straight up the best kind of weapon.

Yep, I used a mace in the first game, sticking with sword in this one for that very reason,
Pretty sure that's for balance because other weapons can bypass armor whereas swords cannot.
Yep. I've really tried to branch out and try axe, warhammer, and mace... but the lack of master strike on them makes them useless. Enemies are way too proficient in blocking every single swing. You need to spend 30 seconds wearing their stamina down to get a single hit in which doesn't even kill them, like over a minute per opponent to kill - while in that same timeframe you could take out an entire camp using a sword. It's really disappointing.

Feinting works really well for creating an opening, how the combat works is once you get a single strike in the rest are harder for them to block so you need to keep up the offensive.

Oh yeah, I'm not struggling with murder... Er... Justly slaying ne'er-do-wells my way across Bohemia. I've just been trying them all and swords seem to be the best because of master strike.

And yeah. I started off focusing on parry and counter. But now I find just pummeling the crap out of them and not letting them rest is the most effective way to win.
Have you tried fainting and heavy swings? Also each weapon has its own uses, I mainly have been using polearms.
I really like polearms. :)

Armor is pretty useless on the Enemys.
With my longsword i kill full plate enemys in 3 - 4 hits.
Normal enemys in 1 -2.
Could be becourse i coat all my weapons in strong dollmaker poison.
But the longsword is overall the best weapon in the game.

There is a mod that makes armor 3x stronger.
Maybe i try that.
For now there is no reason to use anti armor weapons.
And polearms are completly useless.

I've found my favorite (just for the delicious irony) is beating them to death with my fists.

I love that, there is a move you can get with fists that lets you go from clench to chokehold, its so OP.

i mean if all you care about is minmaxing and playing the "best" then sure. But you don't *need* the best to complete the game, you can pretty much use any type of weapon you want, whatever you think is fun. I like whacking people with maces and warhammers

Oh yeah, don't need it, I'm just going "This is a less than stellar design choice" I'm punching my way through the campaign (when I'm not leveling things for warfare.)

I'm doing fine by dodging and striking back (instead of blocking) and using feints.
However there's nothing wrong with swords just being better, and currently I'm trying to fight only unarmed to prepare for a full pacifist playthrough attempt. And even that seems doable so far

polearm and spear are always my favorite; massively underrepresented.
