Why do stolen horses disappear completely while I'm in a conversation?

if you have a stolen horse, it will eventually walk back to it's own owner again, you can go to the horse handler Mikolai in the Nomad's camp and make the horse yours :)

The horse doesn't vanish, it just walks away, like Nordic said.
They don't walk fast, but it's still fast enough to disappear from view real quickly.

What's strange is that after going to Kuttenberg, when I get off Pebbles it just walks away. Minor issue because whistling teleports it back, but still strange.
