Because you can't control your horse at a gallop and the follow path thing just doesn't work at speed. Even with Horsemanship of 26 and a really good horse, It's collision city.

In the Nomad bet mission, foul play is an auto fail (well, except for doping his horse before the race)

A lot of crap this game has. One of them is the races where I don't even know what way I am supposed to go, the nomad one got me so mad that I wanted to punch whoever made that one. I ended up using wemod and giving myself 3x the speed.
Let's see what else, the game keeps removing my stuff and then I need to put them back again and I have multiple costumes with multiple peaces, damn frustrating man and yes, I do mean because of events where for whatever reason they get you almost naked or captured or whatever else.
NPC AIs, you throw rocks and keep throwing and they ignore it because the AI is busted.. Some other retarded missions like the one where you need to save someone and you have to cross a damn castle back and forwards. Frustrating as all Hell....
Opening chest and doors? Hate the bloody minigame.

i dont know man, I completed the competition with lvl 18 or 20 horsie, (got my horse pretty late) Make sure you dont have heavy stuff on the horse, and mb get some horseshoes etc. A few pracitce runs is useful aswell :)
