Conversations with Mutt
Dear developers,

I like the dog. I'm 32 and have been living with at least one dog 24/7 for 32 years. The dog's name in kcd2..- is very negative but what bothers me the most - why the f*** do I have to insult the dog all the time when I pet him? When you pet your animals, do you also call them stupid? I know it's "medieval" but it wouldn't take away from the immersion of the game if you just added nice voicelines! just a simple “good boy” or “here you are buddy”. All I hear is "you stupid dog!" or when he has to heel, an overly aggressive "COME HERE!" - Animals don't work like that and they certainly didn't work that way in the Middle Ages.

I think it would be really great if you could just change that in the game. Of course you can mod anything, but is it really too much to ask to make 3 voice lines "nicer"? There is enough negativity in the world right now. No fight stresses me out like petting my dog in kcd2...

About the combat - great job - super easy combat compared to kcd1 :D (and I haven't played any Souls like games) And the dog does a really good and immersive job here.

Best regards

PS: Playing in German - maybe the voicelines are diffrent or more calm in other languages

To be fair, everything sounds bad/aggressive in German.

But I call my pets names all the times, especially when they are being wankers.

It doesn't seem that bad in English.

"Everything sounds aggressive/harsh/bas in german." What absolute rubbish. I bet none of you are native speakers, there is a reason german was once known as the language of poets.
I also am bothered by the hash and derogatory way Henry speaks with the poor dog. I would like it if the way you spoke to the dog reflects the level of obedience Mutt has, for example. Henry is much nicer to Pebbles, it would not be so difficult to be nice to Mutt also.

lol. In English it is a light-hearted "Silly boy" which is perfectly fine, sounds like the German language translation is the issue.

BTW, I learned German with the Hoff.

His name ist much more infuriating. Why Mutt (Köter in German)? Why not a normal Czech name, like e.g. Jiri or Pavel?

Calling your dog stupid is the biggest compliment

As a German myself, I have often thought the same thing. At least in German, the tone towards Mutt is often quite demeaning. That bothers me as well. But I guess (or hope) that's due to poor translation, although it seems to be quite good otherwise. I don't know how it is in English, but in German the name “Köter” is clearly meant to be derogatory/insulting. Is it the same with “Mutt” in English?

And no - if you speak German in a normal tone of voice, it doesn't sound aggressive. And if you do think that, imagine how aggressive the tone towards Mutt (and his name) must sound, so that even we Germans think: woah, that's kind of rude! ;D

Mutt means mongrel in general and incompetent fool in slang (I never heard it used though, muppet is more common).

But Henry says it lovingly, like I call my dog "dumbass" (Dummkopf) sometimes, when she expects squirrels to jump into her mouth.

And English is the language of jesters and yokels. I've met smarter dogs than some humans and to portraing this as fine is in fact so english/american. This is only anoying and terrible in the game and it doesn't have much to do with the truth. After alI i think now that the developers have personal problems and thats the only reason for the horrible name and handlig with the dog.

First, Imma gonna beat yo ass with a Goethe Sammelband, carefully and caressing, because I disagree with your opinion, not with you as a person

Second, YES FCKING please, the way German Heinrich talks to his dog is absolutely gross, I was looking for mods that might replace the dialogue with the one from the first part nbut found none and I cannot mod, any hint for a solution would be amazing, I posted on Nexus but got no answer
In English, the only thing close to an insult that Henry says when he pets Mutt is 'You silly mutt'. If this has been translated into another language, it would be easy to see how it would become 'stupid', but 'silly' is a much lighter form, and has an affectionate connotation. In this context, it's not an insult at all.
