Unfortunately today's society is more toxic than ever so you will always have the usual forum lurkers who froth at the mouth seeing people enjoy the game and always have a private profile due to insecurity and fear.
There are many games which I think are silly and I will just not play or even try to for free, but if someone enjoys it then, fine? Who am I to judge?
It has been praised by almost every "normal" youtube reviewer who are trusted by a wide community.
Game is indeed simplified, but that's fine. It's still a beautiful world with fun story and I am enjoying it and don't need anyone to tell me what to enjoy and what not to enjoy.
It's crazy how games can divide people. It's pretty sad actually.
The game made over 40 million USD in a single day, which according to sources means the game made back its development cost so every sale after that is pure profit.
KCD 2 is a niche game at its heart, it's an immersive oldschool RPG set in a historical background, that's immersive to what's sometimes its own detriment.
I remember around when the first game came out many people were bashing it saying that nobody wants a game like this because the entire premise is boring, which yes it kind of is, but that's also what makes it interesting to people because there's no other game with a premise like this. What other historical first person RPGs are there?
The game was never going to have huge mainstream appeal, it's not a mainstream game in the same way Dark Souls 3 was not mainstream. It's a game that knows its audience and that's why it's loved by that audience.
But who cares about numbers, look up some gameplay and if you think it looks fun, buy it, if not, then dont. Easy as that.
At my age, with my responsibilities, schedule, and obligations I want games that are more "hand holding," and this game isn't it. I want games that are spectacles, not games grounded purely in realism. I want games where I can pick it up for a short period, get stuff done, and put it down. I want a game where I can choose to be a maniac that swings his weapon haphazardly to destroy everything around him or sit with shield in hand and play defensively, not one where you HAVE TO play basically one way. That group of
bandits? I'd like to decimate them in a matter of seconds, even minutes, loot their corpses and camp, and move on.
I honestly wanted to like this game, played the first little bit, explored a little, got a feel for the combat, and then let it sit for a week untouched and came to the conclusion that I'm not going to force myself to like a game because it's popular, I'm not going to think any less of myself because I can't grasp, nor do I want to grasp the mechanics of the game--I play video games for enjoyment, and I just don't have time to sit and look for the enjoyment, I need it right there, ready to go.
