Yes, today assuming women are only home makers and cook and clean and such is wrong, but six centuries ago, things were different. Men and women had discrete roles in society that were very inflexible and few dared to challenge. It really wasn't until the last couple centuries that this really started to change at all, and these stereotypes still haven't completely gone away.
