Is there a trick to Polearms?
I challenged Zavish of Garbow to a duel. The first round is polearms. I never really used polearms but have level 12 just through tutors. I went to the blacksmith and bought a bardiche and off we went.

The problem is that never of us can deal damage to eachother. Even when we land hits, they do nearly zero damage. A few in game hours into the fight, both of our poiearms are broken. I can now stand perfectly still and his wooden stick just does not affect me. Similarly, mine doesn't hurt him at all. I tried switching to unarmed but my fists also do not damage him in his plate armor.

Is there something i'm missing here? Side note, will an NPC eventually starve to death?

Yes, sometimes all combos dont do damage for me as well. But all attacks that connects (ecspecially unprotected areas) are deadly as ♥♥♥♥. Its ugly as hell that the combos sometimes do damage and sometimes do not. I really like the polearm combos ecspecially the one who will slice open the belly and stab in it when the enemy dies through this combo. Sometimes I do this combo like 5 times in a fight and they will only die through the little damage from the unperfect block... its frustrating

I just did this quest at level 6 polearms. The trick is to dodge and counter attack not block and riposte. At low levels of polearms your weapons breaks fast and don't do much damage, so you need to preserve it by dodging. My polearm fight took like 4 or 5 minutes then my sword fights were over in 30s.

dodge and poke, not swing. dodge and poke, not swing.

Honestly, I normally only use polearms for wolf fights.
Polearms are for sure under-powered, but the play is to get a poleaxe and Just spam stabs whenever you can. I dunno why but the AI are just really bad at parrying stabs from polarms.

Tried to play a full run with only polearms but master strike is just too alluring to use anything else besides longswords/shortswords.
Enemies shouldn't be able to riposte against polearms, the devs should've made it so you stay safe if they block. As it is they have no reach advantage, that's just a lie.
