Should I play KCD 1 Before getting into KCD 2?
Any thoughts? looks interesting, but I haven't played any kind of game like this since Skyrim.

Don't play either. KCD 1 is OK but certainly not worth 60 bucks. I'd say buy this in 6 months when it's on sale for 80% off.

Game is great if you like a challenge and a realistic medieval rpg.

kcd1 has janky combat, maybe just start with kcd2 because kcd1 could turn u off
it was a kickstarter game
KCD 1 is not really beginner friendly. It's a great game imo, but there's definitely some jank to it. The second one, from what i've seen so far is much more polished than the first one. I'd say try the first one, if you dont like it, refund it and just watch an youtube resume of the game's story so you can understand what's happening during the second.

Yes, play the first game. This is not like Elder Scrolls games, only roughly linked to one another due to a shared universe. KCD is a direct story. You do not create a character that goes on wacky and wild random adventures, you play as a set character with a main story focused around him and his life. The first game tells you his story and background before he begins his "heroes journey" of vengeance, giving you the player an emotional and real investment in the character and why you should care to see the world through his eyes, and takes you on the first massive chapter of his life changing journey, and the games main storyline ends by directly setting up the cliffhanger of events which will be directly where the second game will directly begin.

CAN you play the second without the first? Of course, you can play any sequel game without playing its predecessor. I played Witcher 3 but have still never played 1 or 2. But playing the 1st will make the start make sense, let you know who these people are and why you know them, AND give you a reason to be invested in the narrative of the main storylines.

If you want to play KCD2, you should be familiar with KCD1. This does not necesary mean playing it but at least go watch a playthrough on youtube. Story will be direct sequel, so going in blind could be missing out.

On the other hand there probably will be some sort of recap cutscene. But those are usually just bare bones.

This is a direct sequel, and the first game does tell an important part of Henry's life. Maybe you don't "need" to have played it, but it's a great game so I don't know why not play it.
