CryEngine 3 v. 5
I understand the first game was on some 3.x iteration of CE, while this one will be on 5.

I've looked up the Wikipedia article on CryEngine and can't really see much of a difference (probably because I have no idea what phrases like "Vulkan API renderer as a beta, substance integration" mean 😁).

Can anyone help with the sorts of things that CE5 does better than CE3, in vaguely normal English?

Vulkan API will allow developers to optimize game better since when using Vulkan, they define more precisely how exactly the graphics will be rendered (thinner abstraction layer compared to OpenGL). Also, Vulkan is better with multithreading meaning it spreads the usage more equaly to other cores (as much as it can).

However, better optimization in case if you know what to do so.

Thanks. So with any luck the immense K'berg map should run OK.

I assume there's a graphical upgrade as well?

The graphical side is VERY disappointing: looks almost identical to KCD1

Yeah there is alot of issues with funding in the corpo world of games production lately, suits shrink funds and cut costs anywhere they can, and alot of games comes out as disappointments, If its only graphics that took the toll in this game that would be great.

Its a shame tho they didnt add physX, cause the game feels very plastic without it ;p

KCD1 graphics is still decent even today on ultra high setting and instaled HD textures.
KCD2 is no doubt even better.

Not saying it 's not decent but after being 6 years "gone" you would expect more.

Thank you, that's a wake-up call though perhaps for a different reason to what you intended: on the basis of that KC:D1 trailer, I would have thought that Henry was a member of the Holy Benedictine Brotherhood of Assassins. :)

Actually I wouldn't have any problem with the exact same engine and graphics from the first game. I don't need "better" graphics. Was not a selling for me and still isn't.
Enjoyed the first one and wouldn't mind if they'd just continued.

It's called evolution, something you clearly don't get...
Yes the ones from KCD1 were good, but we moved on 6 years in time. In the world of computers and graphics, it's a LOT of time...
Try to increase the quality of KCD2 trailer to 4K and you will see the change... Maybe you just see it at 720p
