If you don't want to make the same mistake as I did then:
Return to the Hall of Heroes. Go to the nearby NPC Staging Room. Proceed until you're at the broken sewer entrance.
Not going to lie, this game feels like it's too easy to get lost sometimes but I'm powering through it.
I really, really wish this game had actual fast travel, because the level design just isn't strong enough to support walking. Way too few shortcuts, everything is pretty samey looking and convoluted. Warlock Wilds almost made me drop the game entirely, took everything to power through it.
Failed the pink guy's quest because didn't return to the city to give the NPC the box, as there was no way I was gonna backtrack through three areas, one of them being extremely tedious (warlock wilds), so I eventually kept pushing forward to find a shortcut back just to run into him yelling at me.
OMG FR, Warlock Wilds is my least favorite map because of how tricky it is to navigate. It doesn't help that it's connected to one of the most important areas and I hate having to walk through a mostly dark area. I think it's the area thag made me stop caring about getting all the items because of how much you need to backtrack.
I understand the intention of having a set teleport but there is so much walking that I get bored. I sort of wish that there was a nexus of some sort that connected all areas to each other. Anyway thanks for sharing your thoughts and glad to help someone who was stuck too.
There were shortcuts that I missed which made backtracking much easier. Seriously it really pays off to thoroughly explore the area as much as you can.
Perhaps the most embarassing thing about when I made this thread was how I didn't know there was sprint. So halfway through the game, I was walking area to area.
Anyway the tethering mechanic is not bad as it encourages backtracking. One could see that as a problem in that the warp only works backwards, so if you needed to go to an area that is far ahead of your tethered beacon then oof.
Overall, I changed my tune on the fast travel thing after playing it more thoroughly and learning the shortcuts that connect each region of Nostalgaia.
Yeah I know which quest you're talking about and I agree with you on how easy it is to miss it and lock yourself out of additional content.
For that one, I'd put the blame more on how the questline was hinted. For instance, you wouldn't have known about the Crone's existence if you did not help out Lady Sco and Nameless Nhero earlier. Also even if you did, you wouldn't know how to navigate through the foggy maze underneath until you found and killed a specific npc enemy.
Even when you'd found the Crone, you probably would have taken the same route back to Oreshaft Village instead of going into the log nearby the grave shortcut which leads to the NPC Backstage Tunnels. Within these tunnels is where you would have found the Reservoir of Pain who gives you another item to give which can make you "fail" the entire questline.
Yeah fast travel would've helped out but it doesn't exactly solve the issue of people not knowing about the quest in the first place. OverTheMoon did say that it was done intentionally to reward curious players and I do agree with him. However, I felt like this questline needed more hints especially with going through the NPC tunnels which seemed like where the player was intended to go.
TLDR; The issue with the Innocent questline isn't the fast travel. It's how the questline doesn't give you much hints on how to start it and where you're supposed to go unless you are extremely thorough.
Yeah I wouldn't be surprised that people forgot about the Innocent since he is fairly missable in that one room as well as just being there for no reason at first glance.
In hindsight, you'd really go back to Oreshaft Village for the Merchant and remembering a few Relics if you didn't know about the quest so I understand that point.
That being said, I would've preferred if the Crone mentioned sensing the Innocent at the village. In that case, you'd have a better indication of what to do as well as reminding you about where the guy was after you explored four new areas. She could suggest going through the tunnels which is sorta like a hub for going to NPC City, Warlock's Wilds, and Oreshaft Village.
Really the only NPC that mentions the tunnels is the Old Man who tells you this after completing the Keep of the Stolen Crown. At that point, you've missed out on the questline.
