Never knew that was a thing lol. Probably would have been the remedy but we haven't gone back.
I've been down at the starter location since forever. Been slowly building it up while I hunt for vehicles to add to my small collection. I love the space, the water and the grass. ^^ and since I've built it up into a mansion of sorts I'm loath to leave it. lol
I'll take a screenshot and add it here later today.

I hunt for crucial car parts from the dead car wrecks. I do not know if using diferent tools for bashing them down makes a difference. But I use a monkey wrench and have had good success getting parts from those wrecks. And I find higher durability car parts from cars I can drive but don't want, but that is more rare for me.
One way in, big enough for vehicles, plenty of fenced in area to build, and two elevated positions that make gate-guard duty super easy.
Hell, if you want to cheese the game, you just build a little off the elevated level of the containers and put all your storage, crafting and food/water production out of reach.
Personally, I don't even bother with a gate, I just use some vehicles parked sideways to block the entry, then neither zombies nor bandits can even get in.

Since you can easily build an elevated base that alleviates the need to constantly have to grind to repair your defenses, it allows you time to go hunting zeeks and enemy NPC's whilst you build you cribs. Multiple outpost through with supplies is great for when you go adventuring.
Just remember horde sizes get progressively bigger and more frequent and will always head towards your base no matter where you go.
I would recommend you don't build inside the storage facilities for many reason but the main one is it eventually stops loot re-spawning in them.
I am kind of curious where you are talking about on the map.
OPs question: D4 top left.. gas station, across road gun shop, same side as gun shop is car shop with 2 garages to hammer open.. just follow road near starter spawn and the other end is the main city, pretty central location, few wolves nearby..
