Will Half Life: Source and Portal be ported?
Hey there,
as the title says, will Half Life: Source and Portal be ported to Synergy, or are the somehow already playable? Great mod btw! :gordon:

I've actually started working on Half-Life: Source support since early 2012, it can be done. If it ever gets finished (which I'd like it to) it's just a matter of when; which I have no idea when that'll be. As for Portal, I've also got it mostly supported in late 2013. Here is a dated screen shot of both Portal and Half-Life: Source in an internal build. Obviously the gameplay for Portal coop will be completely shot, so I won't be doing the EDT support for it, but I invite anyone from the community to do it up via the EDT[www.synergymod.net] documentation as a Workshop item. The main reason why these aren't already supported since they were started so long ago is that Synergy only has, at most, two developers and we both have very busy lives. That said, we do have a number future plans for Synergy.
Portal Co-op would be interesting. Half-life source co-op is already in obsidion conflict.

Yeah, and it'll stay broken, Obsidian Conflict is now in the pile of "dead development" HL2 mods. Synergy's support for HL:S looks more promising too.

Okay. I know that Portal Co-Op is cool, but the maps aren't optimized for co-op gameplay. Also, Sven Co-Op was released on Steam. And HL:S just has ragdolled models and better footstep sounds.

And HL:S uses entities that have the same name as HL2 ones (i.e. item_battery or weapon_crowbar) which would possibly make the game glitch out due to it reading from two FGD files.

The idea is not necessarily to support a true Portal coop experience, but rather to just to have Synergy support Portal code/entities so custom maps/servers can use Portal stuff if they so desired. It's really more of a just because I can [and it's kind of fun] type of situation. Technically, I could add code support for all OB games, like TF2, CSS, DOD, etc. You would of course, have to own the game to use it in Synergy. Maybe I'll look into it someday if I see any value in doing so or if I get really bored. :)

Half-Life: Source on the other hand is indeed a reasonable game to support coop for. Hopefully I can get both of these code-supported in the public beta soon with the first few chapters of Half-Life: Source.

As for entity classname collisions, Synergy has a way of handling this.

Old thread, yes I know but how goes this thing to port HL:S to Synergy if not already? I'm out of the loop.

I tried out Half Life 2 on Synergy and I had a great time. I's really cool. Do you still plan to add compatibility for Half Life: Source? If so, then would it be possible to play with the Crack Life: Source mod? I feel that the chaotic nature of Crack Life combined with Half Life: Source's jank makes for a perfect combo.
