[Help] Is there a "easy step by step" guide for setting up a co-op server?

i noticed that it isn't as easy as I thought to get a game with a friend running. We can't find each others server when we set one up. Apperantly you got to fumble with your router and port forwarding.

I thought you could skip that if you go directly via the Synergy programm. But I guess it doesn't work that way?

I'm not too familiar with this stuff, so I'd need a guide so we both can play on our own server.

Can someone point me out to a guide like that?

Source SDK Base 2013 multiplayer mods all require port forwarding. Only the modded bases like L4D or GMod allow for playing without port forwarding because the networking was re-written.
If you don't know how to port forward, you could try Hamachi (Note: limited throughput), playit.gg, or Radmin VPN.
They each have some overhead, some more than others which will make the network unstable for more players, but generally any of those will work with 2 players.
If you want to have full network bandwidth, you would have to port forward. There are guides for every single Source mod on Steam because this has been asked on every single one.
