As of now, you would have to make a server, port forwarding and all. But with the HL2 20th anniversary update, the team did say they were working on friend lobbies so you wouldnt have to do all that. So... just wait!

Actually with Hamachi it isn't working for me or my friend so we are stuck without playing with friends

I've been (not that actively) complaining about this for a decade..
"Port forwarding and all that" never works.
