Can anyone explain how this works?

Me and my friend both own half life 2 on steam, will we be able to play together? Or is it lan only? He lives on the other side of the country. Im just unsure of how this mod works, or if it has servers for online co-op. seeing many reviews and posts saying it doesnt work. Is it outdated or something?

Yeah but is it like Sven? Where we have to mess around all day just to play privately with a friend? Im tired of messing around trying to get all these mods to work, they claim to be easy to use. If its any easier than Sven, then thats a good start.

If you don't know much about basic port forwarding and console commands than no it's not easy, but it is easy to learn.

If you don't know much about basic port forwarding and console commands than no it's not easy, but it is easy to learn.

i know how to use console commands but i dont think anyone should have to go to this much trouble to play with their friend privately. why can I join a friend privately in garrys mod but not sven or no more room in hell, ect. do you know where i can find a modern guide to port forwarding for all these mods/games. Even one i find is from like 2007 or some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, n most recent comments are all warning that its outdated and no longer works lol

Nothing worse than joining a server from the list, only to have it fill up with children and trolls almost instantly before i can even invite my friends in. They want to rush to the next load area as fast as possible or stand in doorways and vents blocking everyone else from progressing.

There are no player collisions, so you don't have to worry about blocking.
GMod works by using a relatively new system that takes a lot of time to program. Implementing UPnP to allow clients to connect to each other without port forwarding. It is one of the only Source mods to implement this system.
If you really don't want to take the few steps to port forward, you could just join a 2 slot server with your friend.

all it takes is a simple port forward and if you aren't having luck maybe a few console commands. you dont need to run a dedicated on the global server list bro.

God ik the feel me and my freind just want to play co op but it feels impossible! without some dam trolls
