ZPS Official FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions and known issues about Zombie Panic! Source.

Where can I report a game bug?
You can create a thread on Bug Reports & Issues sub-forum. If you're experiencing game crashes or startup issues, go to Troubleshooting for further information.

Support Email: support@zombiepanicsource.com

Do I need anything to run?
No. It's a standalone game. It will always be free-to-play.

Does it have BOTS/AI Players?
The official "BOTS" don't have any actual intelligence (AI), their purpose is for developement/modding content testing. That's why they're named as "debugging bots" and nothing else. We've no interest into making "proper" official bots but do know that some community servers host their own bots.

Does it have Linux/Mac OS X Support?
Linux support is available. Unfortunately, there will never be a Mac OS X support.

Windows XP is no longer supported because of its binaries and some third-party libraries being used are not compatible with XP.

Will ZPS support Steamdeck/other consoles?
The Steam Deck being marketed as an "All-in-one portable PC gaming" by Valve on it's website. You'll be able to use current Linux client if you keep SteamOS 3.0 to play Zombie Panic! Source. If you go through the hassle of installing Windows on your Steam Deck, you will be able to use the current Windows client to play it. However, it's not our "top priority" to fix crashes, bugs or even update the game to properly support any kind of "controller/gamepad", this includes devices like the Steam Deck.

Will ZPS be ported to Source 2?
At current state, we "don't know yet". Here's a non-exhaustive list of why we would answer "yes":
  • Better technical foundations (DirectX 11/Vulkan, 64 bits support...)
  • Better authoring tools and possibilities for the devs and community modders.
  • Works better with modern hardware.
And why we would answer "no":
  • A complete Source 2 SDK (Software Development Kit) is not publicly available. Currently, only modifications for Dota 2, Half-Life: Alyx and CS2 are possible.
  • Content created by the community will require an update and/or an entire rework to be compatible with Source 2.
  • We need time and practice to learn how the engine works "inside and outside" before actually starting migrating ZPS on it.
  • A lot of time and effort would be required to make a proper migration.

Didn't you guys left to work on Contagion?
No. We're not the Contagion Team. The Zombie Panic! Team is totally a different team than Contagion's. However, many developers and playtesters retired since 2012.

I want to support you guys! Where can I donate?
Thank you! But we're not accepting any donations. It's a free game. You can support and help us by sharing this game with your friends on Steam and at any social media! Support your server you are playing as well with donations if you like!

Can we also add a brief how-to for installing the game in this thread as well? Seems a lot of people ask the same questions in regards to installing the game, so it may be beneficial to add this information here.

A "How can I start my own server" section would be quite helpful as well. :)

My game crashes a few seconds after opening every time. I've validated the files and installed the game a second time. Nothing seems to work.

Try uninstalling QuickTime from your PC. If this doesn't help, create a new thread here

i want to know : How can we know if a teammate survivor is infected ? his name is green or only the infected survivor can know ? (i know, in zombie, we can see him in green)

The only way to figure out is shoot or beat suspected survivor with melee. If you see him getting injured, its most likely he is infected.
However, please remember that some servers might enable Friendly Fire option which in this case, you better just stay away from everybody for at least 5 meters.
