New Zombie Panic! inbound?!
Our friends at Monochrome has just announced their interest to push the franchise forward by possibly developing a brand new commercial Zombie Panic! game on the Unreal Engine 4! To quote:
"As we approach our 15th anniversary at Monochrome, we're looking back to our roots and we want to ask you, the community, your thoughts on the possibility of building a new Zombie Panic! Good idea, bad idea, thoughts or feelings? Any cool features you'd love to see?"
If the project successes, we might be able to gather more resources to ZPS development as a whole, since we're still planning to continue its support by releasing another major update in the future!

Given Monochrome’s track record of starting projects, making promises, and then abandoning them while passing the reigns of responsibility over to the community, I think I’ll pass on this one.

Remember Contagion’s kickstarter stretch goals? Remember Contagion VR? Remember Headcount?

This is very true. We all remember. I personally lost a lot of interest after their full release out of early access period. Many people thought Contagion would be a sequel to Zombie Panic, however their expectations weren't met. They tried their best I assume, but it wasn't enough and Contagion got lost into the void for a lot of years and lack of communication.

Hopefully they have learned and will bring a true next-gen Zombie Panic experience in their next title. I already said my thoughts in their channel and my personal wishlist (others have done that as well). Now let's hope for the best and see how it turns out.

Edit: We really don't need another Contagion.

well first thing they have to do is communicating very clearly what they are want to do (keeping in mind how far they can stretch by financially), and what they are capable to do with the UE4.

just to avoid any future misunderstanding, because as we can se... the community never forget, and rarely forgive.

I think Zombie Panic's value comes from the fast paced PvP action (not NPC zombies), having teamwork/co-op being crucial to survival, the fact that each human death results in the Zombies becoming stronger as they join their numbers, the creative aspect of barricading, the random infections and the horror of trying to survive through hidding as you find yourself as one of the last ones alive is a nice chilling touch.

I think a succesful Zombie Panic game would require it seeing Counter Strike's zombie mods as the direct competitor and expand upon it. A PvP horror game with teamwork and fast paced action is really what I see Zombie Panic as.

Agree with everything you said Fusco, although I haven't played CSZM so can't speak of that. One thing that I think is also super important is the custom mapping community in ZPS - I think making mapping as accessible as possible for the community is one of the reasons that ZPS has lasted so long.

They could try something different or just do ZPS with better graphics and that's it, personally, I liked contagion but not as much as ZPS, also even if they start development right now they will have to compete with other zombie games probably with NMRIH 2 , so how are they going to innovate ?

Source 2 would be the correct engine to make it on ..... it will be more advanced than UE4 and you can easily port all the work on zombie panic right up into the new engine...

to delete all the work of zp source to Restart.... No.... just keep updating and improving this Classic Legendary game.

Just make new characters/new guns, new loading screen, and be Absolutely ready to make the best Source 2 Game ever

But for real Source 2 will blow UE out of the water when it comes to lighting/physics and flexible performance on older comps and Ease of modding/mapmaking
if you really changed engines to UE you would be abandoning the mapmakers and the community creators that give so much content to the game, youd have to remake everything, and thered be way less new content flowing ..... not good idea

i think if you charge 10$ for a Source 2 zombie panic, thatd be awesome, a huge appeal about zombie panic is that it's free or easy to access, so a low price point is important. i do believe ZPS can go viral with millions of players, just need new loading screen and more characters/guns

I think Contagions issue was that it focused on NPC hordes, ai is easy af to adept to. Zombie Panic is scary because you know every single zombie is a smart human player, like George A. Romero's zombies have human like intelligence but they want to eat you. A good Zombie Panic game should focus on objective gamemodes where everyone have to work together to achieve a goal and get punished for lossing teammates as they join the Zombie side. If they make a new game I hope they keep the 10% human win rate a part of the design, it should be a zombie PvP horror game where you need to earn the victory.
"Dota 2 was changed to use the Source 2 engine in 2015 which was called the Reborn update. The Source 2 engine supposely improves your FPS over Source 1 because "it uses more CPU cores" and "runs better on older laptops, and at the same time further increases performance on current desktops."

basically, super old comps ppl getting 20, 30 fps... they wont run it but like that isnt even playable in ZPS lol -- but anyone who has a decent computer that has multicore at least will actually see better performance along with state of the art graphics

UE4? Why not develop a new ZPS in Unreal Engine 5?. If this does happen I suggest making it a Free to Play game and have micro transactions for character skins enabling the development team to receive an income without charging players to play or making it Pay to Win.

Worth noting UE5 is still early in development for a game engine, usually best to develop games on the most stable engine hence maybe the choice of UE4
