I've never said that. If anything, it's the opposite. The story is very barebones, just like in most of the games I made. I'm not a writer at all and have always focused on gameplay first (and probably will keep this way). All of the Momodora games (and Minoria) are pretty much "evil curse that must be defeated by a holy woman who fights demons" and it was never intended to be any deeper than that. Simply because it is not my area of expertise, it is not what I chose to focus on.
To get on the topic, the reason why those games are not on Steam are because they are made in old engines and would essentially have to be remade to fit modern standards. I would not like to just release them as-is on Steam because it would be a half-assed, half-hearted effort. We are a small team and would prefer to focus on newer releases.
Even basic features such as Steamworks integration (achievements, etc) would require the games to be ported/adapted to a different engine and that's already a load of effort that I'd prefer spend somewhere else.
The question is basically: do I want to spend 6 months, probably more, porting Momodora 1 and 2 to Steam, games that haven't aged as well as I wish they did, or do I spend the same amount of time working on a new game, that is more exciting and plays better? Or do I want to spend even longer on this side project, adding the features that I think are worth it...? You see it starts to snowball pretty hard and eventually leads to questions such as "should I just remake these instead? Would they become completely different games?"
The amount of questions leads to even more frustration, and then I'm back to where I started.
I know you could just say I should not give a damn about it and just have the games on here regardless, but it just doesn't sit right with me. The games just don't have the level of quality required, period, that is my opinion. It might happen some day, it might not. It is just not one of my priorities right now as a developer.
I hope you can understand the points I'm making from my perspective.
This question comes up time and time again and you can check a similar reply I've given in the past here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/428550/discussions/0/3109152828485722082/#c3109152828488672337
Some of my favorite games (Sacred 1/2 or Blade & Sword or Dark Souls 1) are released that way, so I still got to go find fixes and community patches to play them.
On the flip side having "game 3", "game gaiden" and "game 4" without "game 1" and "game 2" in my online library is frustrating, annoying and I hate that. People like collecting stuff, even if the stuff is digital. It's one thing, when older games were on consoles, and porting them is truly unrealistic, like Armored Core or Gundam Breaker series, but knowing that there are perfectly functional PC games in a series, that you just can't add to your account is eating at my brain on some deep, primeval level.
If you ever change your mind and bring old Momodoras to steam, I wouldn't expect them to have achievements, cards, badges and other social media garbage, but I would welcome them wholeheartedly.
Well as I said starting with Game 3 is frustrating, I guess it's easier for me that the new game doesn't have a 4 or a 5 in it.
I'm a simple animal like that.
Just make it free and put them on steam in the state they are now and no one even think to say it is half-assed. Its a heritage, people want to have it on their accounts. Whats so bad in just putting old games onto steam, it is that shameful? I own 2 momodora games here on steam but never bother to play them since I didnt play 1-2, and dont planning to buy new games of franshise while not play 1-2, but I dont want to go on itchio for that. Steam is convinient platform and its feeling nice to see you have a full collection here. Maybe thats just me and almost no one asked you for bringing these games here. It was 2 years since last time I asked about these games, hope one day we'll just get them as free dlc with exe files in game folder of Momodora 3
I also appreciate that the games are still available for free and drm-free on itch.io! 💖 And you don't even need an account to get them! It's great!
(more edit): *you know, her breasts are so big they're saggy. lubellas were big too (but so was she in genral), but didn't have that sag going on. I bet that little pikmo (moka) man got stuck in those boobies alot. Or squashed by them? Oh on another thought new game from momodora person could be lubella back story game (and how her boobs became so large, like a curse or something...)
Also caterpillar girl.
Dev didnt want to put it here because it is outdated, but seems like he did it in the end, he put original version on steam, ofc there are problems with it's quality, but now people have full collection, as LISA fan Im happy. The game itself is just a story with few puzzles, but its important story thats related to 2 charakters and its the only part out of 3 where we can play Lisa itself. I hope we'll get Momodora 1-2 in same way at least
Also, as another example - Yume Nikki 1 was put on steam month before they released Yume Nikki 2 in 2018. Same first game so people just wont feel missed out
It was my first game of such type I played it in 2008 and you cant imagine how insanely happy I was when I got it on steam month before 2nd part appeared. Now this game preserved and hundreads thousands of people got familiar with it thanks to popular platform
