The first two games play more like Cave Story mods, I think rdein is embarrassed by them nowadays and would rather pretend they don't exist.

sure they are rougher but i dont think so, they still show up during the ending montage and have sprites of dora and momo running in the new style with their old designs, the game has plot summaries of both games as well

That's a shame, I think it shows growth and honestly I find those two very charming.

Yeah I thought it was weird that the itch page for the first one he explicitly recommends not to play it and play the later ones. I definitely enjoyed it once I learned it was only an hour tops I had to suffer through, it is pretty punishing lol.

Maybe for Momo 1 because it is very rough, but Momo 2 still holds up and IMO isn't very close to Cave Story in anything but art style. I prefer it over 3 even.

For now you can go to games and add non steam game to steam, you can even pick a header, it will show up on your library as normal

I'd love an excuse to play the first 2 games again if they appeared on Steam.
I published my old Flash games on Steam and no one complained about the quality because they knew what they were getting into.

IMO, it would be amazing if rdein remade the first two games

As a developer I can understand - he might feel the need to update the older games a lot so that they don't damage the reputation of the series. But I think that sort of fear is unfounded - if the games are priced really low or totally free, and the original release date is shown on the store page, then I think most people will see they are an earlier, less polished work and not representative of the newer games. And they could bring in new fans to the series, even if they're mostly published "as is" without extra enhancements.

Having said that, I haven't played them in a while - maybe they're a lot rougher than I remember!

I guess not everyone is as fond of their very old work as I am of mine.
