Marriage on the other hand, it was a personal decision of the studio not to have it in the game. It was more about the journey of establishing and becoming a part of a deeper relationship system than the shallow marriage destination that most games offer is what they were going for here, from my understanding.
thank you for informing me and responding!
Been waiting for the full release for eons now, and now that it's here, no longer buying it. I'm just one person in the wheel of course, but the devs say one thing, get the money, then say something else.
If it comes around as a DLC later on, great, but right now. Devs are not getting my $$$
hopefully they add it down the line
No, we are tired of you harassing us across multiple platforms about a topic that we talked about wanting in the game but never promised.
-We will not be adding swimsuits to SunnySide.
-We will not be adding children to SunnySide.
-We will not be adding children in swimsuits in SunnySide
Please stop harassing us about these topics.
Hi Mark.
This particular user (that you responded to above) has been harassing us across multiple platforms for about 3 years now. So I would like to clear something up:
We never explicitly promised marriage in the Kickstarter. It was something we considered in the beginning, but we decided that our only option was to do it right or to not do it at all. Marriage is often one of the most complained about features in farming games, specifically how unsatisfying it is. We did not want to mess it up, so we asked the community on Discord for their opinion. That opinion, for the most part, was split on the topic. Many wanted it, but agreed that it wasn't worth it if it wasn't implemented well.
For this reason, we decided to emulate relationships in Persona, which is where a lot of the inspiration for SunnySide came from. In Persona, if you're not familiar with it, you have cutscenes with various NPCs where you learn more about them and their story and slowly grow closer to them, but there is no marriage involved.
Additionally, we wanted to modernize the genre a bit, and the truth is, marriage and kids isn't a reality for everyone. We wanted the story to be about YOU, the player, specifically, rather than having it be a game that was all about finding someone to marry.
We understand that this is a controversial decision, and some people will not want to play SunnySide because we did not include marriage, but we stand by our decision. Not including marriage left more time and word count to focus on deeper stories and more robust mechanics across the game, and we're proud of that.
To be clear, there IS romance. And there is a satisfying culmination to each of the romances, it just isn't a wedding.
Thanks for taking the time to share your feelings on the matter. We really do appreciate it, and we're actively looking at ways to create more satisfying romance mechanics for future games. We try to be as transparent with out community as possible, so I hope this alleviated at least some of your concerns. <3
My take on this subject is this. You either enjoy playing this game as is or you don't. It's that simple really. You either enjoy the game and all of its elements that have been introduced in the demo for what they are or you don't. Even then, what we can experience in the demo is only part of what one can expect from the entire game. While getting married and having children may be enjoyable ultimately, if that's your primary end goal for any farming sim game, you're not going to find it here. RainyGames has set out to put their own stamp on their game here. It's more about the journey than the destination itself. Why so many who demand that every farming sim game have this ability is beyond me? These are not Dynasty games. You want that, you'd be better off playing Medieval Dynasty then. I'm not trying to be harsh here. It's just that some are so off put by neither of these two elements being in the game that it makes the game not worth playing whatsoever according to them. I get that, to each their own. However, I can only imagine those are the same people who just want to get from point A to point B and the trip getting there is just a chore, not to be enjoyed along the way. This game is all about enjoying the ride getting there. Enjoy it for what it is.
The reason why maybe many only look for romance in farming games like me is because they grew up with the oringinal harvest moon games.
Thats just how some people like me enjoy those types of games, good for you if you can enjoy them without romance. But for me it will always be a goal of many i want to reach at the end of a farming game.
Maybe i will buy it in the future, even if it doesn't have marriage etc. , but for now i will wait and see if it will be good
I just want to chime in here in case there is a misunderstanding:
There IS romance in this game. There is a big cast of romance candidates and everyone seems to have a very unique story you can explore via friendship or romance. It seems to be pretty deep too, for example will some characters be interested in a relationship quite early while others will want to get friends first.
So the only thing that's different from the standard marriage-part of farming games is that the relationships won't end in marriage and living together, but that doesn't mean there won't be romance.
If it's still not what you are looking for, then that's a shame but it is what it is. Others will enjoy these mechanics and I hope you will too or find another game that you will love :)
