Tips for Early SunnySide Success!
These are just some tips that I've come up with as I have played the game and read about other people's experience so far. Feel free to add more tips in the comments!

  1. Optimization issues: the devs are currently working on a patch, but reportedly if you turn off vsync and reduce the shadow quality that really helps.
  2. If the prompts, ie: break on a rock, don't show up, it's because there is a small bug. From what I have experienced, it is easily fixed by opening your phone and closing it.
  3. Read the dialogue, read the tutorials, and look over the game settings. A lot of the negative steam reviews are easily because they didn't pay attention to any of this. ie: World feels empty (explained by the story), I got stuck (there's an option on the pause screen that fixes you), music is too loud (there's a literal preset for ambience focused rather than music focused... and there's sliders).
  4. Join the discord if you have questions. The devs are super involved and lots of people there in general are super willing to help! [Edit: The discord server is called RainyGames]
  5. The in-game phone has a journal app. The quest showing on your screen probably isn't your only quest! You can change the active quest on the HUD by changing the page the journal is on.
  6. Some items are locked behind story progression. So keep checking that journal and you will unlock things. You get a lot of items for free from the NPCs (bicycle, rice cooker, hot plate, machete, pickaxe, drone etc) if you just keep following those quests!
  7. Time stops, on purpose, at about 9:15pm on day 1. This is your best opportunity for early in-game money. There are loads of berry bushes & mushrooms around the map. Forage everything you can find. I save the mushrooms for eating, and sell the berries. Without even trying hard to find every berry bush, I made $1.2k by selling the berries to the grocery store the morning of day 2.
  8. Don't plant anything until you get the drone ! All the building is done via the drone, and there's a short fence that allows you to bring the water hose over it and keeps the critters from destroying your garden. If you follow those quests in your journal, you should get the drone early enough to still have your potatoes ready for Sunday's farmers market.
  9. The romance is different in this game. The characters are not player-sexual! You may have to play as different gender expressions in order to date everyone.
  10. There is a glitch that stops time that involves swinging a tool at exactly the right moment. If it happens to you, take advantage and mine or forage! :)
  11. Sparky has a flashlight. Bring up your inventory and it will be on the left hand side above the tool wheel! So happy for this because I find the forests and mines to be extremely dark at night. lol
  12. When you need clay, you can get it from the rocks in the mine... but apparently the rocks in the forest behind Gabe's give more.
  13. You can check you phone/map while on the bike.... so long as the bike is stopped. Kinda like irl!
  14. Ramen from GotNoodz & coffee are your best friends! Ramen is one of the dishes that fills your hunger bar to 100%, and coffee gives a special energy boost. So long as your hunger bar is filled above 30% you energy will automatically refill.

Sorry, looks like I screwed up the formatting a bit.... first discussion post on steam. lol Still readable, at least.

Omg I had no idea the short fence worked, here I was so relieved that I could finally get my gate built so I wouldn't have to jump and try to water my crops in midair hahaha

Oh wow thank you so much for the tips. I did not know some of these things. Super useful information.

Great tips! I would also like to add...
1) Fishing is stupid lucrative! If you go to where your tea house is and use the river rod (lure isn't required, but will speed up the process) you can catch King Salmon... and HOLY CRAP are they worth a ton. I make 2K selling 1 days worth of fish!

2) Spacebar jumps you back up from your bike if you (like me) end up crashing while doing sick stunts down the temple stairs!

What do u mean with plant nothing before the drone? What has the drone to do with farming? Bcs your crops can get damaged without a fence?

Well, I mean, some people I was watching on YouTube lost every single one of their crops. Both potatoes, all the strawberries... So yea, fencing can be kind of important.

Thanks for these! I already just added the spacebar one to my original Reddit post just before coming to check here, but I will definitely add your tip about the fishing there too! Appreciate it!

Yeah, I didn't have any problems personally (until recently and I had to build a fort knox around my crops), but I've seen people lose EVERYTHING to that $(#@)! (god I hate that thing)

How to make people hate your game on day one.

I think this was by design it is working this way though. The dev's intent was not for the farming portion of the game to be min-maxed like most other farming games are.

Even with warnings, players are still trying to plant and get a head start on farming from Day 1 when all they need to do is wait until they have the ability to place fences around their plots to prevent this from occurring, for the most part.

Wait, was there a warning? I thought I was keeping up with tutorials and paying attention to the characters, but I only realised animals could eat my crops when I saw one doing it. (Otherwise I would have assumed I needed a scarecrow, maybe?)

I don't know about day one but when Gabe takes you to get the bike and stove he also mentions getting a dog to protect your crops but that fences work too. So there's a warning but it's turning out that might be too late for some people who got unlucky.

Oh no, no warnings in game, I meant here online by some players posting about why are they losing their crops and thinking it might possibly due to a bug/issue with the game.

I think it will surprise almost all of the players, their crops mysteriously just disappearing if they plant Day 1 and any of their crops are lost.

In this respect, I'd like to see a warning be added to the game when Kat gives you the strawberry seeds when she does about needing to protect any seeds that are planted to protect them from wild animals. It would be at this point that most players should realize what took place if they lost any of their planted crops by then.

It adds a uniqueness to the game not seen in any other farming sim games.
