Worth playing now?

I got this as a gift / part of my family library. Is it worth playing now or should I wait for more patches?

I would give that a careful: Yes.

There are still bugs, but I personally think it’s acceptable now.

The lack of proper tutorials is annoying, but you can more or less search every problem right here and get an answer.

personally i would wait , its pretty buggy still and while not bad it does fall a bit short interactions-wise dispite its charm. i won't say its a bad game , but they should've launched in early access honestly . i think it'll be 'good' if they have more time to cook and would say either hold off a few months or get it on sale at least

I am going to tell you my experience. The game in farming it is not bad. If you want to know about social, romance, friendship, it is still far away from what many of us will love to see it. It feels a bit lonely and empty.

As I know many people love romance and all that, I think this is not yet in that level.
The updates have been amazingly improved the game experience.
Again this is my experience and I have 535 hours in it.

I can see that. How's the farming aspects though? Animals and plants and foraging and stuff.

I don't want spoiler just give you a hint. :)

There was a bug about animals behavior, was difficult for many people because they didn't eat or drink and always in bad mood. That is not longer an issue. All my animals eat and drink fine. They are cute as well, I love the animals in this game.

Foraging is not bad I have not seem issues here. Now cooking is tedious. Festivals? Well needs some work but you can still go there and check everything.

Sorry I have to be careful not spoiler to you. Just give it a go when you feel is right. Check the updates, and read discussions to help you have an idea. I know this is not a big help but I hope you give it a try at least once.
