A house? In my farming sim/life/stardew like game? Perish the thought.
Look this is a rant, pure and simple. I don't want to negatively review things since I like the ideas in this game so a rant. But ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Storms, wild animals, rain, thunder, and what do you do? Stay in a stupid tent. That's right, it's a farming game where you should have a farm house, but have tent. Okay, that's fine. But you know what? You can't ever build a house. At least not until you finish a doorless tea house, a chicken coop, get chickens, a garage, a barn, some animals. Oh? Oh right, we should give you a house. What the ♥♥♥♥? What's the point of decorations and furniture if you keep the house part at least 3 hours into the game.

Hells, I'm 5 hours in (cause I take my time) and I still don't have a house? What the ♥♥♥♥? That's awful compared to... stardew, my time at portia/sandrock, sun haven, or literally most farming centric games. Like really? I don't know why this decision in particular frustrates me so much but it does. And don't talk about how you have to cave dive the whole dungeon thing just for hangouts.

Its far more than three hours in. I was at 15 hours and around 20 game days in when I drew the line at the chicken coop.

Admittedly a few of those game days were because I didn't believe the coop was actually blocking the house. I only figured out that was the block when I asked around thinking my game was bugged.

I'm being generous at saying three or five, I'm technically 13 hours in right now without it. And pretty much same as you. A day or two was just "Oh I might have to cave dive to unlock a power source or something"

I feel the same, I read lots of bad press with this game and though most don't bother me I draw the line with the housing issue. I don't get how they decided to hold off the house this far and not to mention decorations are available already! I was thinking once I re-built the Tea house I can then start building a simple house. Alas now they want me to build animal housing first???!!!!
What kind of farm is this?

While I like that you have to build the house, I agree it should be one of the first things you do, rather than the third or fourth. I play really slowly too, and I was almost in Fall when I finally got a house built.
I'm kind of using the tea house as a house to be honest, I have the basics for living in there, but I do agree that it takes a crazy amount of time, for unlocking well the basics.

I just can't get my head around why I'm building everything else before a house.. I mean I feel like I messed up and skipped the house. Anyone can please tell me at which point i can start building the house?
I'm already a building a garage before a house for heaven sake!!!!

I'm not upset about it, but I do find it baffling that building a house is locked behind so many other things and such low priority. The house blueprints should have unlocked at the same time as the bird coops.

You have to build the chicken coop and the barn before house blueprints unlock.
This game is just different, we are use to get a house right away. I think we need just to go with the flow and try to enjoy the experience.

It is a pain having to build everything before you get your house and not very realistic. I'm sitting in the rain while the animals are nice and cosy!! Who's going to look after them when I die from exposure... On a brighter note .. You can get coffee straight away (that's rare in farming games)

And Tea, love I get to enjoy my Tea albeit at the mercy of the elements while my animals are safe and cosy. :D

I know this is a hot topic as I've seen it posted previously a few times so it's clearly something that bothers a lot of players. For me personally, I didn't mind waiting and I will try to explain why from the perspective of the game mechanics and skill progression since I've played long enough to build my house:

When you start using the skill tree at the shrine, you're going to have a lot of things to 'donate' in order to advance specific skills such as farming, mining, and yes, building too. If you were able to build the house earlier, you're going to have to work a lot harder to get those materials (and it takes a lot of them to build the bigger houses). Once you have unlocked more of the building skill tree, not only will more blueprints be available to you for furnishings and build objects, but the cost to build them will be reduced in material amounts too.

So basically, building your house is tied into a lot of skill tree progression and finding the specific items the skills require to advance that part of the skill tree. Building the tea house and other things not only helps you increase your building skill to get the levels necessary for the skill tree, but helps you gather more materials as you level up exploration and gathering skills. Everything has a synergy over time to increase production for you including how many rare gems/ores you gather when you mine and so forth.

I hope maybe this sheds some light on the reason I think they decided to go this route with making players wait to unlock the house blueprints until further into your first year. I built mine by fall of the first year and felt that length of time was fine at a normal pace. I probably could have done it much faster but I spent a lot of days exploring and farming/mining.

I'm not making this long post to argue your opinion about wanting the house right away, just maybe explain why waiting to build it can actually be beneficial (because you'll have higher resource gathering skills and lower blueprint costs from those skill tree perks).

Should the developers offer the house blueprints immediately or earlier in the progression? Probably. If someone is really super insistent on having a house right away and wants to work twice as hard to get it (due to lack of skill points to make it easier), then sure, I guess you can start working on the blueprint from day 1 and spend twice as much effort going back and forth to the mines or forests to gather all that wood and metal you will need to build it.

Sidenote: There are three different sizes of houses in three different styles to choose from, so perhaps allowing players to unlock the smallest one earlier would at least appease those who want a house right away. Just an idea for developers to think about.

Thank you for this! As the sidenote pointed out.. I just hoped we could have had a simple house or a run down house at the start. Then, go on with the whole skill tree perks for upgrades and cost discount. As much as I love playing the game the no housing thing really bothers me (guess is the mindset since the many farming games I've played always had some sort of starter house). I'm now trying my best to see the Tea house as my starting house :D

This is a game, so I am talking about the game. To the homeless people, I will not talk but everyone should take action because we can.
