Irrigation Pipes, how do they work

I unlocked irrigation pipe and the automation upgrade, but now i wonder how do those work in the first place_

i can build them just fine similar to fences.
but whenever i crank the vavle noting coming out of it..

do they need to be connected to the water tank, pump, or hose?
do i need to wait a day for them to work?

what is the automation upgrade supposed todo for us, because it did not add another recipe... does it trigger the valve on the pipe at a certian point in time?

make sure you have water in the tank when you turn it on.

they do not need to be connected, will only work at waking up (once a day)

Do we know what the automation is suposed to do at least?

I haven't used the automatic ones yet but the normal ones you just open the valve and they'll work however they don't work with most of the "Raised boxes" I've only got them working on the 4 x small raised box and on the ground.
I had an issue with the electric pump not working the day I installed it but the next day it was fine.

Bonus tip you can press F to "add another point" to create corners etc. with your irrigation piping so you only need the one valve.

oh thanks that tip is helpful,.. i tried to activate them multiple days now,... they never work.... so maybe activating the automation upgrade broke them....

i just rebuild the pipes and using f to extend seemed to help.
before i tried building them like a fence connecting to each other...

It doesn't seem to water the large plots. Any tips?

Figured it out. Run the pipes directly through the larger plots.

i just checked,...

you can run the pipes
- between 2 small plots
- between 2 small plots
- between 2 paddy plots

Edit:

I have to Correct myself, it does not always work out that way... :(

For Paddy Plots i thin you have to run the line atleast roughly through the middle.

For Large Slots, the direction of the pipe might be an issue

Just cross a large plots is probably the safest way to go about it
