Auto Level Up?
I'm only just starting this game (I think my last save was after I added the Quarian lady to my squad) and I have no idea what to do with my level up points. When I first launched the game, I made it so the game would automatically invest points for the rest of my squad and I could do my own but even just doing Shepard's confuses me at times.

Should I be using auto level up for any of the characters or should I just do it all myself and hope I put the points in the right slots?

Well, if you have absolutly no idea what your doing with the skills, just turn it to auto.
If you had a plan for shepard, obviously you should try to figure it out.

I think I've mostly figured out where to put points. Just so many decisions haha. Thanks!

That's half the fun of this game, just figuring out what everything does! I'm still playing ME1 to this day despite the fact that I beat it within the week it first came out.

I have played Mass Effect a few times now, and I always have the other characters auto level up and I choose what points mine goes into for shephard.

Haha yeah I sure had fun figuring out where to even go in the first level. Kept getting lost. This game is a lot more intricate than I thought it'd be. :P

I tried that as well but the AI was putting points into things I didn't really need and neglecting the more important talents.
Honestly, Auto-Level Up just focuses on leveling certain skills automatically, rather than having to take the time to rationalize it. I used Auto-Level all the way through my first play-through, as to get to the action faster. Choosing your skills manually can help you more if you are experienced with the game at least 1 time through. But Auto level up would be prefered if you are new to the game.

For shepp I tend to put the points in Spectre training and the class specific skill close to the bottom first as well as your paragon or renegade options on there to help with dialogue at times depends on wich route you're going I don't put points in both just one paragon if I'm doing a paragon playthrough and renegade if I'm doing renegade exct then focus on armor training for survivability but at this point it just depends on what class you picked as each one will have different demands in terms of what you might want to train firs. Squad mates I usually max the same way. Class specific bottom skill first then first aid on one of them and electronic and decryption skills on the other for opening doors and whatnot toss in a few points here and there into powers but just to max those out won't take you all day so there's no harm in using some of the beginning points in those skills while the enemies are still weak.

Auto is bad, it makes poor specialization. Much more efficient is to level-up ONE weapon type for particular character, increase electronics for one member of the squad, decryption for another member, upgrading other skills depending to your playing style. They're pretty self-explanory, so don't be afraid to put smth wrong. And don't forget to press SPACEBAR and make orders! :)

Haha I forget to give orders constantly and it cost me. I just finished that big Krogan boss battle in the Artemis Tao Cluster and died about three times before I remembered I had special abilities haha.

Yeah, he's a tough one alright. Lift and the poison skill are good counters to Krogans - especially when they charge you. That kind of enemy who is built like a tank and charges you is not the type I respect. If you don't use biotics or tech powers you're as good as dead.

Yeah actually I did put a couple points in Lift before the encounter but they weren't showing up on the power radial during the fight. Strange. But I kept spamming Overload/Sabotage on Tali and Throw/Warp on Wrex. That and me shooting him in the face with a shotgun made quick work of him. ;)
