CPU overheating issue
For some reason ME and ME2 both cause my cpu to heat to 90*C and higher. I have an AMD Phenom X3 720 BE that's not overclocked. Idle it runs in the mid to low 20's, playing games like Batman AC and Dishonored never go above 60. Anyone know a fix for this or have an idea? Thanks in advance!

If it doesn't result in any errors, you can ignore it.

Ok, that's one idea. Any ideas that don't involve trying to burn up my pc? And is anyone else having this issue?

All righty then, guess I'm the only one with this issue. So much for this series I guess.

That sounds pretty strange tbh. All fans functioning correctly? If so, when is the last time the thermal paste on the CPU heatsink was reapplied? I had a similar issue with TF2 at one point. I move my PC semi frequently and the old dried thermal paste had cracked up on me. Cleaned it up, applied new paste, and was back to gaming in the 50-60 range

Fans are running fine, and the last paste was when i put it all together about a year and a half ago. It's a stationary desktop that I only move to clean (dust out fans, etc.). Worth looking into the paste idea though. Thanks for help!

Using the stock cpu cooler? If so get a better one, stock ones suck.

Maybe it tries to refresh way too often than its nessessarily?
Use fps limiter program so it will limit refreshrate to what ever value you want to.

It might be an old thread but I think that someone might find the answer useful.

ME has the bad habit of using cpu to load and work with shadows, and that overheats the cpu in many cases. The solution is the following:
Open the BIOEngine.ini file (commonly found under Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect\Config) and look for the [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice] heading. Under this heading, you'll fine the following line:
DisableHWShadowMaps=True

Simply change True to False and the game will use the GPU to render dynamic shadows. That worked for me.

I'll check for that issue in ME2
