Feros can't be saved?
I've played this game dozens of times on 360, so everything is pretty routine for me. I have never failed to save Feros, but it seems bugged on here. In both of my two playthroughs I did everything right to save Feros and yet in both I couldn't save it.

Did you use the Thorian Gas grenades so you don't kill everyone?
Hm, as far as I was aware, you need to get the resources running again (water supply, kill the varren alpha, get the generator parts), save the majority of the colonists and possibly, Ethan Jeong needs to live. Not sure about Shiala or if Gavin Hossel have any effect.
I managed to reboot all of the colony's systems, but I am running into a similar issue. Fai Dan has gone AWOL so I cannot complete the side quest.
Well I'm not sure then, sorry. Not come across this before if it's a bug. Maybe try posting the issue on the Steam Forums, there's some knowledgeable people on there.
Can confirm that Ethan Jeong doesn't need to live if you don't like his attitude/actions.
You are supposed to do all the Feros side quests BEFORE main quest. Restore water, bring food etc, do all that BEFORE you go to exogeni headquarters where you have to save that kid who tells you about the thorian. If you have done all sidequest and too many colonists don't die while you finish the feros-main quest, colony is saved.

Yes, I know. I've done this mission countless times, it just seems to be bugged for me on the pc version.
Are you playing as renegade? I found someone saying he encountered similar bug when he used renegade option and said that he is not going to use grenades to save colonist but then he used grenades anyway. This bug might have happened to you too if you are playing as renegade. Eitherway, sounds like some serious bug but it has not happened to me.

[EDIT] Also, I play this on Origin. I don't know if there are something different in Steam version suchs as Steam not having all the updates so there might be bugs like this left in the game. dunno.

you may not remember, but then I can kill ethan and still save Feros (Shiala and all the colonists live) and have the colonists as war assets in ME3?

Yes.

To save the colony you need to get 13 "points". The game doesn't actually tell you the number, but it's pretty easy to keep track of.

You get 1 point for every side quest you complete when you first land (Varren meat, power source, water, geth in the tunnels). I don't know if the data recovery side quest counts for that. But that's a possible 4 or 5 points.

You get 1 point for every colonist you save when you return. Either by using the gas grenades or melee (never tried with melee personally). That's another possible 16 points.

Then you get EITHER 12 points for Ethan being alive OR 5 points for Shiala still being alive, whichever is higher. Both can survive, but you'll only get points from one or the other. Or zero points if they're both dead.

So Ethan dead, Shiala alive, all colonists alive is still 21 points (or 25 with side quests complete), way more points than you need, and the colony will survive.

If Shiala is alive she'll show up in ME2 for a short side quest, otherwise you get a random NPC giving the quest (same rewards either way).

If Shiala is alive and the colony survived you'll get them as war assets in ME3.

Thanks, it felt pretty good to kill Ethan knowing it doesn't affect the colony
