A few questions on the weapons in ME1
Never played this before so started a game and am finding that the only gun I can use with any effect is the pistol and perhaps the sniper rifle. When I try the assault rifle or shotgun they are so inaccurate that I just don't get any hits (or so it seems).

Now I haven't progressed that far, I have just been made a specter and about to leave the citadel. Managed to get a little money together and finding it hard to spend anything on these weapons if they are not going to perform adequately. I also notice that all the assault rifles I have and have seen on sale have an accuracy of 1!!

What's the point of these weapons if they can't hit anything? I'm sure I'm missing something and I'm hoping someone it going to tell me I'm doing something wrong or it will get better, at the moment I don't see the point of carrying them even (not that I have a choice). Hate the idea of only using my pistol throughout as I know it's not going to cut it later on.

Any help on this will be appreciated, I think it's just that I'm not understanding how this all works.

What class are you, some classes only specialize in 2 guns, some in 1, the soldier class is the only class that can use all types of weapons

Also if you have been made a Spectre, save up your money until you can buy the Spectre class weapons, they'll be listed as HMWVII or something similar, they are the only weapons you'll need, until you can afford them don't waste your money on guns because you'll always find something better until you get the Spectre guns

Not sure about the 1%accuracy, i never seem to ever use assault rifle's

Assault Rifle's lose Accuracy as you fire, but will regain accuracy when you let go of your fire button. As a soldier class if ya use overkill skill it'll give you 100% Accuracy and makes easyer to kill ppl with AR. More points you put into AR skill more accuracy it becomes.
In late-game and with the right weapons you can shoot with full accuracy till your assault rifle overheats (crouching) and as soldier you have the ability to shoot without overheating your assault rifle with about 30% accuracy lost ... but you are right in the early game pistol is the better weapon - long story short - assault rifle op

If you want to be absolutely god-tier op go soldier by the time you get to late game you will be able to just pinpoint accuracy spam assault rifles like you got a damn aimbot on.

Sounds like you're the infiltrator class? Putting skill points into the weapons types will help with the accuracy (you know what I'm talking about if you've played RPG's before). The only playable class that can train the assault rifle is the soldier, and the soldier and vanguard classes for the shotgun. For some reason the game still lets other classes equip these weapon types. As for the assault rifles having an accuracy of 1, you can find some later on in the game that gradually have higher accuracy as your charactor level progresses.

I like using the shotgun with those rounds that increase heat but also damage (don't remember the name). One shot overheats it, but with the spectre shotgun you won't need more than one shot...

Sniper rifle is the infiltrator weapon I think. Pistol is for short range - but that shouldn't happen.
