Eh, I prefer ME3's cover based tactical shooter over the awkward RPG style light shooter elements that ME had. Just so stagnant and boring, not to mention sometimes being cruelly unfair.
I've just finished ME1 and have just started ME2. How are you doing it so fast? Took me about 35 hours to complete pretty much everything in ME1, and I think it will take longer in ME2.
My thoughts on ME1 were these:
ME2 and ME3 were better in almost every way, including role playing and story (ME is not really what I would call cRPG, anyway), and especially in combat.
ME1 combat was particularly unforgiving at the lower levels, and some of the levels involved insta-death if you didn't happen to know what was coming. It did get much better at the higher levels, as there were more tools to protect myself, but I was still finding that many mobs were capable of one-shotting me, even on normal difficulty. In the final battle, I took the wrong weapons, and it was literally not completable, as I couldn't damage my foe's shields. Had to load a save and select a different weapon configuration.
ME1 inventory system was better than ME2, except that management of the inventory was a complete pain. It was also nice that your squad could change appearance with outfits, but not a big deal.
At the beginning of ME1, I detested the Mako, but by the end I was quite happy with it. I won't mind if it makes a reappearance in ME4, as long as the landscapes are designed a bit better.
That said, I did enjoy ME1, and it was nice to play the story, knowing how it fitted in with the later episodes. I enjoyed the ME 1 experience, but (unlike ME2 and ME3) I wouldn't ever play it a second time. So, ME1 was a great start to the series, but I think it was improved through ME2 and ME3.
Also I got through them fairly quickly because I'm on a layoff from work and can just sit for several hours and play the ♥♥♥♥ out of them. You would think I'd be playing games I've never completed but...nope I just keep playing games I really loved before over and over.
Anyways I have to say the 3rd game played and looked the best but me2 had the best story you also got to make actual choices in the second game that matters for 3, but in 3 not quite so much if at all having a 100% readiness doesn't do anything as far as I know I mean I've had only 50 and still beat the game didn't notice anything different.
I think im one of the few to have liked the combat in ME1. It felt different. ME2 combat was the best, but ME3 combat seemed like the clips had really low amounts of ammo.
Do the missions where you fight Cerberus. In the end, they have a nice perk. Quite the fun missions as well.
Or play an adept and never worry about ammo! :-)
Frankly I find the romancing to be the most disappointing honestly. I romanced liraira since the first game and never got laid by her just kissing once in a great while...the whole thing just seems dumb.
I play as vanguard in ME2 and ME3
ME2 improved on the series' gameplay in pretty much every way that matters.
When ME3 made the inventory more complicated again and then added hidden item drops on levels, I thought "nooooooo!"
I've played this series so many times now and currently on the 3rd game again as an engineer which I've never done before and regret that it's so much fun throwing a turret in the midst of enemies and watching them get taken down bit by bit without having to fire your own weapon.
