Question about Liara's Dig Site
On my first playthrough, going to Liara's Dig Site to find her was like the first thing I did after getting the Normandy. I was level 8 or 9 I think. Anyways, I went to Therum and after the cut scene the drops the Geth Armature I got absolutely destroyed. I tried about 10 different times to get past that part but every time just got slaughtered.

My question is, why wouldn't the game let me go back to the Normandy then? Since there was no way for me to beat the battle, and pressing N to go back to Normandy was disabled, I ended up being completely stuck at that part and had to quit that character (it was my first playthrough so wasnt smart about making several save points)

I feel there should be some warning there that once you reach a certain point on that mission you cant go back to Normandy, because now im having to start all over the game.

It is quite easy to defeat it. Just take cover behind the crate in front of it and peek out and shoot. Hide when it starts to prepare to shoot back. Rince and repeat until it's toast.

I tried every tactic and came to the conclusion my character was simply far too weak. I was getting one shooted by everything, not just the armature. I wasn't even getting a chance to employ tactic, just kept dying. For example, I only had 1 shield bar worth of shield, when I see people play that part on videos online they usually have 4 or 5 shield bars.

I just loaded up my Hardcore Vanguard, and I was at the dig site at level 10, with 2 shield bars. Ashley had 3, Garrus 1. Personally, I dont think the Armature is the biggest threat, its the Snipers and the Ghosts. What I do is run off to the left, behind those silos, or whatever you want to call them. You can more easily take on just one or two at a time that way, and the Snipers have a harder time getting a bead on you. After I took out all but the Armature and one Sniper, I crouched behind the crate next to the silos, not the one in the middle, so that some of that scaffolding is in between you. I took out the Armature with my Sniper Rifle. It never even hit me from that spot since it didnt move.

Well I am doing a new playthrough now. I want to go in a little better prepared next time, I just find the action in this game too clunky and I hate dying and having to watch that stupid cutscene every time. I would rather level up my character to make it an easier encounter.

Can you confirm that the game doesnt let you go back to Normandy at that point, or was it a bug with my game?

You can't get back to Normandy during main missions.

There is also the thing that by saving her later you are risking of not getting her achievement and being unable to have a relationship with her. Plus little fact that enemies scale to your level mean that it's not going to be all that easy later on.

Yeah, don't worry about the Armature, it's not the real threat the snipers are. Also don't you have a save you can fall back on?

Do sidequests on the citadel, try to get the best gear possible at that stage of the game before doing the quests, specially noveria.

That is inaccurate. You CAN go back to Normandy on Feros and Noveria missions, I've done so myself. What I did was playing both missions to a certain point only to get enough XP to be able to finish them. Noveria can be pretty relentless on the boss fight.

Did you try squeezing the Mako in through the wall? It's not that hard and you can then take the bastard down in a second ...
