(Occasionally in the Mass Effect series, you're given more of an option to take the 'gunning' route or the 'spying' route, even though Shepard is a mostly-gunning character.)
In Peak 15, I think you'll need to do something like meet with the doctor in the 'basement', follow the stuff relating to him, track down a spy of Benezia, etc. Eventually you get a key card or pass (I think there are multiple ways to get it) and it gives you a roundabout way that avoids all the hostile guards..
~~~
If you're talking about just losing access at all, that's part of the story! Once you're done with Peak 15 by stopping Benezia and the Rachni, your only choice is to leave and never return.
You CAN return to Novaria itself, but that's only to the initial corporate area, not Peak 15. You can talk to maybe a couple NPCs to hear a couple new things (at most), but otherwise there is little to no reason to return to Novaria.
Don't worry, the Peak 15 merchant has nothing exclusive. There are a few points in the series where you meet a merchant that is more temporary, like at Peak 15.
Yeah, I meant losing access to the merchant at Peak 15. It's as you remember, I did the doctor quest first, used his pass to access the tunnel. Apparently Benezia, the guards and Rachni all have, Hive Mind. So even if you avoid all the guards and kill Benezia, the guards magically know once you kill her. Or if you kill the Rachni in the Hot Labs, the guards magically know it was you.
It's just pcrappy choices & consequences.
The Mass series is certainly full of little mistakes like this that confuse the player or decrease immersion though. It is often 'play the devs' way or get annoyed', instead of devs trying to properly account for any actions the player may take.
Whoops. Yeah, that may be true. Ha! :D
Yes, VeryBad if you kill the Hot Labs Rachni, Ventralis says something like "sorry about this but we expected you to die down there" then they attack. It depends on the order.
Still the problem is that if you killed all the guards before going to kill Benezia you should be able to access the merchant after, since there are no guards left.
It's just bad planning as SwobyJ mentioned. It's not that I expect it to be perfect but just wondered if it was possible, since I could have missed a scenario allowing it.
Of course most all bad designs are usually fixed by Fan Mods such as Skyrim or New Vegas. I know Bioware is trying to do better, iirc they released an Editor/Tool for DAO and sound like they will with Inquisition. Of course the problem, as always is the pcrap publisher ea.
