Problem using skills and the quick slot in mass effect 1, could use some help

The explanation on how to put skills in the quick slot bar made it seem pretty simple but my game won't let me do either that or even use them. There are times when unity would come in real handy, yet it won't work and I can't use my team mates skills either. When trying to add them to the quick slot I press and hold the space bar, left click on the ability I want, and try to drag it where I need it to go but absolutely nothing happens.
Is there a solution to this or am I missing something completely obvious?

cooldown perhaps? get Adrenaline so you can reset your skills

Unsure, but it really doesn't matter all that much any way since you have to hold space bar to use your squadmates quick skills any way.

I'm guessing cool down looks the same as the first aid cool down but nothing like that happens, nothing happens at all when I try to use my skills.

I'm having exactly the same problem, and would also be grateful if anyone has discovered the solution. It's certainly not a problem with cooldown, and as Drangonfly says it is impossible to even use skills - my own or squadmates.

i kinda had the same issue.. it was origin's version of mass effect 1. not sure how i fixed it, i think it just kinda fixed itself.. you can try. these 2 ..
