Is Mass Effect compatible with Windows 8?

It probably won't play straight out of the box. It's an old game and a particularly troublesome at that. Great title, but I wouldn't recommend it if you absolutely hate messing "under the hood".

The PC Gaming Wiki[pcgamingwiki.com] is where I found everything I needed to play it on a Win7, but I had some issues. Didn't stop me from enjoying it, but crashes during loading screens were frequent and a few AMD-exclusive glitches held me back in two specific areas.

ME2 has being amazing so far, though.

It's running on Win 8!
WARNING! ME1 and ME2 on PC don't have any Controller support thanks to BioWare ignoring all requests since 2012!
I'm still searching, maybe I'll find a mod or something... -.-'

I can play this game on Windows 8.1 x64. Can't say if it'll work with Windows 8, though.

Runs fine on Windows 8.1 Pro. Didn't need any of the Run as Admin/compatability crap.

I can run it on Windows 8.1 alright, but every time I start the game it asks me of I want to allow it to make changes to my computer, and I have to click 'Yes' within about 5 seconds or it comes out with an error.

Does anyone have a fix for this? None of my other programs do this after installation.
