ME1 on Steam... DLC? CD Key?

Okay, so I bought the Mass Effect Collection off of Steam last week, and while I've been enjoying Mass Effect 1 quite a bit, I'm wondering about DLC. The ME Collection on Steam includes Mass Effect 2 Digital Deluxe Edition, which leads me to believe I have the DLC for Mass Effect 1. But... I can't tell.

I have a CD Key. I tried entering that into EA Origin and on BioWare's website (social.bioware.com) but it isn't working on either service. I've read that Steam doesn't have Update 1.02, so does that mean Steam doesn't have the DLC, either? In that case, the CD Key should be for Origin, and the DLC could be on Origin, but it's not working. In either case, will I be able to play the DLC thru Steam? I've also read I could download the DLC for free from somewhere??

I'm really confused as to how DLC for Mass Effect 1 works and to what I use the CD Key for if it's not working on Origin or BioWare's site. Any help would be appreciated!

UPDATE: Installed the ME1 DLC thru... "other means." Still don't know what to do with the CD Key or what it's used for.

UPDATE 2: Installed the 1.02 update for ME. Asked me for a CD Key to verify, entered the one I got from Steam, and voila! Alright, now I understand what the CD Key is for! Don't think I have any more questions. If there's something else I should know about, I'd appreciate it~
