You should have brought ME1 and 2 on the steam sale, now you'll have to pay full price.
Anyway, if you get ME1 on steam, download the 1,02 patch witch isn't included on the Steam version:
http://masseffect.bioware.com/me1/pc/updates/index.html
Also, I think Steam ahs teh final versions of the game. They're no longer patched.
There are the steps:
1)Install the game on steam
2)Right-click on it in library and select something regarding the key
3)Try to redeem the key on Origin
4a)If this fails contact EA support chat: they will ask for your Origin email and this key.
4b)After verification you will get ME1 on Origin AS WELL WITH 2 DLCs free of additional charge
Bump on this. I also bought ME1 during the Summer Sale and have played around 6-7 hours, and I'd hate to restart. Can I just install 1.02 and keep on playing normally?
Thanks for the tip! Do you know if Mass Effect 2 has some DLCs? If it does, would it be better to purchase it on Origin or will I be able to buy all the DLCs on Steam as well?
Unfortunately I have no idea: I bought and played ME2 on Steam(which included Cerberus Network key which granted access to some (but not all!) DLC as well as severe startup lag), but a few years ago I got ME2 on Origin as a bonus to my late ME3 discounted purchase. All DLCs(some of them are quite awesome and pretty ME3-saveimport oriented) for ME2 are available on Origin where I got them instead. No idea if Steam version of ME2 is transferrable to Origin as well. Sorry.
