Mass Effect (2007)

Squad mates just stand there doing nothing but taking hits, and dying during combat.
I have been playing the ME series since it was released. Now when I go back to ME1 to build another character class/type playthrough, my squadmates will not engage the enemy, unless I tell them to use a biotic/tech power. other than that they just stand there and die.

Any suggestions?

Is the squadie's name Jenkins? Just kidding. You may have inadvertantly hit the right arrow key for commanding the squad to hold position. Use the rally command to get them moving. As far as not using powers, there is a setting under gameplay where you can set how they use powers from always to never. I would make sure that it is not set to never. Those are the only ideas that I have.

I have it set to use powers, and I rarely if ever hit the right arrow key, and the squadies literally do nothing but follow my movement commands(rally(down arrow), move to position (up arrow)) but do not engage if I press attack (left arrow)) or hold down space bar and highlight an enemy and click on attack. Even when ordering them to use a power, they won't even turn in the direction the targetted enemy is in, or turn in the direction of incoming fire when not given any further order atfer move to x position.

-And now trying to load a recent saved game, the game crashes during load... just got back to the citidel from Eden Prime, and had the first "Council Hearing" and was off to Chora's Den to talk to Harkin... Was in the little vestibule between the lower markets, the back alleyway, and the ramps to Chora's Den. Made a save game, but now it crashes when I try to load it....- Fixed this by enabling hardware sound....

i found this to be the biggest problem in the combat for Mass Effect 1, but i've played through the game that many times i've lost count and the best way i found to overcome the combat areas is to manually use your squadmates powers as often as you can,, everything will seem easier if you do this

Thank you for posting!

Did you mod your game or change anything in the .ini files?

I made a couple of changes so that I could use the dev console to get better armor, weapons, etc. That is usually when I have the difficulties.

When I play vanilla, this usually doesn't happen, except with Ashley constantly charging her barrier/shield while she's in cover.

No i haven't modded my game or changed anything in the .ini, i still play it vanilla but i have noticed sometimes that one or both squadmates are just pinned to cover and wont shoot or use powers even if i order them to.
But i found that the easiest way to breeze through the game is to do what i mentioned in my previous post by bringing up the wheel and selecting what power they should use eveytime, abit of a pain i know

That is what I have been doing too. just wish there was a way to fix it.
Thank you for your input though. Cheers.
It's just a drag when you have to micro manage your squadies...
Now I just use them as fodder... send them out into the open to distract the hostiles, so I can pick them off at my leisure, HEHEHE >:D

Most games with companions you control tend to be tedious. BioWare games especially seem to have companions that are more liability than assets. They get in your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ line of sight. They knock you out of hiding spots, opponents tend to zero in on you and not them, their damage output always seems nerfed compared to yours, it really is just one giant bag of frustration driven by Artificial Idiocy, not intelligence.

I'm replaying via the Legendary edition and I'm finding that no expense has been spent improving companion AI or combat mechanics. All they've done is spruce up visuals and textures and even then, textures still look ♥♥♥♥ because the higher-res source material was already low res compared to today. It's not as though they've created higher res textures, they've just used the higher res material used at the time that was compressed down into ♥♥♥♥ looking in-game textures in the original.

You dont need no companions, go lone wolf. This is not andromeda or ME3
