Favourite Squad?

Personally this is like... my 3rd playthrough of mass effect. I was young during the first one, aka stupid, I just took the biggest flashiest squadmates I could find and played infiltrator, I never gave any serious thought to my squads actual capabilities.

In terms of the second playthrough well... Second verse the same as the first. But know it has been a few years and having seasoned myself with the other mass effect games I'm approaching this playthrough with a different... View on abilities and such. I used to always make myself the one (wo)man army as the infiltrator, capable of all the hacking and decryption as well as the DPS...

This playthrough I decided to play as an Adept, because I really enjoyed biotics in the newer games and frankly... They're kind of meh in this game but I decided to roll with it anyway and I noticed as you grow through the levels the biotics become less meh. Also pistols are still VERY over powered so I don't have too much trouble in combat. That said I have no electronics abilities of my own. So I tailored my squad around helping me with that, mainly because I'm a loot addict and not being able to hack a container or probe wreck just... drives me nuts.

As such my new favourite squad has become:

Tali: Maxed electronics skill.
Garrus: Maxed Decryption skill.
Shep: All teh biotics.

As such I wonder about this squad, but Tali is extremely effective with her shotgun (Since I added points to it) and I purchased Garrus a nice... spectre class assault rifle, or something like that and now I don't seem to run into combat issues.

Long story short, what is your favourite squad composition and why? Do you build for effectiveness or with the characters you just like the most? I'm just curious.

ME1, I have 3 favorite Squadmates, pending on Shep. If Soldier, I take a Tech ally like Garrus or Tali, as well as Liara. If Tech, I take Ashley and Liara.

My favourite squad has to be Tali and Wrex, but it depends what class i play

Vanguard- Tali and Wrex
Adept- Tali and Wrex
Engineer- Liara and Ashley
Soldier- Liara and Tali
Sentinal- Garrus and Wrex
Infiltrator- Wrex and Kaiden

i normally use a shotgun and pistol combo so having Tali and Wrex as my main squad you can't go wrong with 3 shotguns being as i choose shotgun as my extra skill

i use Wrex and Garrus all the time no matter the dificulty. it's allways fun to have those guys around.

In ME1 (I'm normally Vanguard, main profile, so I have Combat and Tech):

-I rarely use Ashley unless there's a mission that just makes more story sense for her to be around, like Luna. She goes on Virmire..

-Kaidan I use almost all the time now. Not because he's useful in a fight, but because I want him to have a lot of story experience with my Shepard, in prep for ME3's m/m romance. He tends to also be a box opener, since I don't need him to learn all those biotics.

-Wrex.. I use plenty, but he's no priority. When I want variety, or someone more tanky that isn't Ashley. He certainly helped me in Hardcore final mission of Pinnacle Station! I've always been lukewarm with him, bringing him along and keeping him alive in the story, but not prioritizing him and his needs.

-Garrus I use plenty and partially because I do enjoy him in my squad for his skills. Very nice having him snipe enemies I didn't even realize were there. I don't particularly love his character as much as fans did (or came to, with ME2-ME3), but I certainly don't shut him out from my squad.

-Liara.. depends. I don't need her with me, I'm not romancing her, and I don't need extra biotics, but she's welcome once in a while. I always (in this profile) make sure to bring her to Novaria for obvious reasons (fighting Rachni, Benezia), but other than that, she doesn't need to be around, especially since her story role isn't particularly combat related either.

-Tali came along for much of the leveling journey, because she was my box opener until I put the points in for Kaidan. Her only tie to the journey is the fact that the Geth are around really, so I don't feel the pressure to bring her along. She is of course good against synthetics in fights though!


So...
1. Kaidan
2. Garrus
3. Liara
4. Wrex (might tie with Liara?)
5. Tali
6. Ashley (might tie with Tali?)

#1 is almost always around. #2 is very often around. #3-4 is sometimes around. #5-6 is rarely around but not shut out.

Teams of Kaidan/Garrus, Kaidan/Liara, Kaidan/Wrex may be the most common, I suppose. Kaidan/Tali when leveling Decryption on Kaidan.



In an older playthrough a good while ago, I made sure to bring Wrex and Tali to the final fight because I felt like my Shepard wanted to redeem them for their species' larger actions. This time, I might lessen on that and only bring Kaidan and Wrex, not Tali. 2 Combat levels, 3 Biotic levels, 1 Tech level... yeah, that'll work fine.

It kind'a depends on who I'm romancing. One time, I thought that Ashley (who I romanced in ME1) and Tali (who I romanced in ME2 & 3) were gonna have it right there in ME3 (I think) when I took them on a mission together.

When I played as Soldier I took Wrex and Ashley with me, totally unstoppable once you get immunity.
Makes insanity difficulty really easy.
