EA screwed up the base game cd key....
If you say at least one dlc still works, then maybe not everything is lost.
Check here if you have everything in place
Ah, that's fun. And yes, the game recognized at least Pinnacle Station after simply copying a backed up DLC_Vegas file I had from years back.
Unfortunately, I got both of them working another way before I saw your reply. I'll make a note for the future to check those registry paths after copying the files over. At any rate, having them properly installed means I'll know what to look for.
Thanks!
What is not clear to me, is how you can get the DLCs working, by pretending the pinnacle station key is the game one.
And no idea. The game and Pinnacle Station share a key while Bring Down The Sky uses another key. They're recognized in-game, but I'm not sure what the actual triggers are. I assume I'll get access to both once I leave the Citadel.
Regardless, I hope it's a solution that works for others. This is a needless pain in the ass and we're already losing Pinnacle Station in the Legendary Edition.
It's not that the base game will refuse to load DLCs when its own key is wrong per se.
But rather, it is the DLCs that are gated being their own special license files (DLC_Vegas.dat and DLC_UNC.dat).
These in turn are locked to the precise combination of DLC and base game keys that you had when you installed them. (I could verify this indepndently for both components, thanks to my old purchased PS key)
And for some lucky reason, both DLC installers license check is half-assed enough that it also accepts "itself" as a valid main game key.
... I'll need to catch some sleep after having been mindblown.
