Mass Effect (2007)

Mass Effect (2007)

Will ME1 work on Windows 10?
Will this original ME1 from 200 work on Windows 10 or do I have to buy the Legendary edition with all 3 Mass Effect games? I just wanted to try one game for starters.

Thank you.

Yes it will.

Thank you.

Will it work natively or will I have to install third party programs, or change settings in the vanilla game?

You only need patches if you wanna run at 1080p or have an AMD CPU and stuff like that but it will run without too.

I played it 2 years ago on windows 10 . There were no issues.

It will work as I still play it with the latest windows 10 updates. However the better your computer the more struggle you may face to make the game work properly (but when you do its totally worth it). This is because this is an old game that was optimized for 2007 software/hardware

The better your computer the better you will run the game.
The only issues is that you have install physx to make sure it always launches, and people with AMD cpus need the black blob fix.

Actually the game struggles with multi core CPUs that are new (especially those made after 2010). AMD users that have those models need to mod the game anyway (easier than use console commands every time they enter Noveria and Ilos). This is because the AMD Black Blobs glitch fix mod fixes the issue (I am such one people that suffered with the black blobs on Noveria and Ilos before I found out modding the game fixes them). This is because the game was optimized (as I explained) for software/hardware made in 2007. You will face audio glitches and "loading" screens because you have a fast computer and the game cant keep up with your computer very well (hence the "loading" in the middle of roaming around the Citadel mainly and the audio glitches, those either is game not recognizing your audio hardware or again same thing - Game engine unable to keep up with your PC because of how good it is for the game)

Nothing of that is normal.
Audio stuttering sounds like a problem with openal or DPC latency, and loading pauses sound like a pretty slow hard disk

have played it on win10, buuut it wasn't exactly install and push play - use laa.2 for more than 2gb ram, start game, install dlcs, install mods, tweak ini settings, read again google, tweak again, etc, and at the end it was working at bearable state... for just to test how it plays may be only andromeda can give idea as it is with newest graphics, about story there are a lot of people that didn't liked ME:A.

LAA isn't really needed if you play without mods (or at least I once give a flawless quick play to 8K resolution, without touching anything)
DLCs if any are a PITA to install thanks to the infinite wisdom of EA, but that doesn't depend on hardware.

None of them apply in my case. My PC specs can run ME2 and ME3 at max (very high) settings at stable good FPS (never actually needed to measure those because they look smooth and polished). Audio in both games was fine so its that my hardware is too fast for a 2007 game (game works better and has less audio gliches for me if audio hardware acceleration is disabled). This is the only game that will struggle detecting your audio devices (speekers) and you have to check log files to check if it is doing that. I also tested the loading screen in unintended places and they still happened even at the lowest settings so my hardware is still too fast. This is me (not the same for everyone, as I said)

Runs perfectly on windows 10 for me. The only change I had to make is using Silent's .dll to fix the black blob looking graphic bug that amd fx and ryzen suffer from on a few sections. If you have intel cpu then you need no mods. If you have an old amd phenom 2 cpu you also need no mods and this game should be working perfectly.
The dlc is a little tricky to install but when you get it come here and we'll help - or look at a guide to learn the method.
When you open the options, you may have a time finding where the higher resolutions are. Just look really good when you open the options because the drop-down menu arrow is hard to see. It's there though, and when you click on it more resolutions will show.
Cheers

That's a bug the game also had in 2007, it has nothing to do with newer hardware.
And openal-soft should be even better than hw acceleration.

Works just fine for me. Only bug I've run into is when I did that whole 'gambling' sidequest I somehow got stuck in the loading screen (the one that shows you looking out over the Citadel) yet being able to rotate the camera. Dunno if that's a known bug or not (probably is, given the age of the game), but otherwise it runs well on my Win10 rig.
