Can't Save
Hello.

I decided to start a new playthrough.
But every time I start the game it won't save.
I tried everything, deleted dlcs (I had the two main dlc and a the mod ME1 Rcalibrated), but nothing.
The only thing I didn't try is to play without ALOT, MEUITM and graphic modification, but they never gave me any problem before.

Any idea how to solve this?
Thanx in advance.

Do you have, I don't know, normal write access or something to the Documents\Bioware\MassEffect folder?

Yes. I can do everything. I tried deleting my old character saves and started from scratch but still not saving.

This is so odd.. Try to tick and untick read-only for all the folder maybe?

This hapenned to me recently

Basically you must find the "DefaultEngine.ini" in XX:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Mass Effect\BioGame\Config
and look up for the line that says:
SavePath=
and add
"XX:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Mass Effect\BioGame\Save"
with the quotes and save it

XX is obviously the letter of the unit where you have the mass effect installed

After that i recommend start a new game until you be able to save and see if this works

Note: Your old saves and the progress of your profile will be in My Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect\Save

You can copy the profile file and all of you others save files to the new location

That didn't work for me... The game didn't find my saves even when I moved to the new location...

However... I reinstalled it for like the 10th time and now it seems to work... let's hope it keeps going that way.

Thanx for the help guys!

Ok... I think I've found the origin of the problem... I didn't install any graphic mod and it worked fine.
Then I installed some with ALOT (ALOT, Better Lighting, MEUITM, ALOV, Liara's ME3 face). And now it doesn't save... something with those mods doesn't work...

Are you using the latest version of ALOT (12.0 I think? released this month).
My educate guess is that has the only "complex enough" installer to potentially have such a reach as to cause this problem.

Yes, I downloaded the last version of ALOT.

Anyway, I fixed the problem: the antivirus (Avast) blocked the game from saving. I added an exception and, for now, it seems working ok.

Thanx to all for your help!

Hi, I had the same problem. After upgrading my Windows system to 2004, avast blocked me from saving and importing characters in Mass Effect 1 2 and 3 games, just enable the exception in avast and the problem will be solved
