HOW DO I GET MASS EFFECT 1 DLC ON STEAM??? + Any advice before I get started?

Hi! (Out of curiosity and recommendations from 2 friends) I've decided that I should play the ME games! I've never played them and have only seen snippets of stuff.

I found out pretty quickly that ME1 has 2 DLCs: Bring Down the Sky, Pinnacle Station
and that they apparently don't come with the Steam version of ME1 nor can they be seperately purchased on Steam for the Steam version??? I'm currently researching how to get them on the Steam version, so if anybody could make any helpful suggestions I would very much appreciate that! Do I need to ditch the Steam version? Do I need to download a particular file? Please let me know!

Also, any beginner advice? Specifically, any advice for before I get started such as recommended mods etc?
