Maybe there is more to it, but maybe it would be a good idea to check the integrity of the files, and / or re install the game. Taking in mind that you will not loose your saves on the game. As it states above "Filename not found" worth a try :) Good Luck :steamhappy:

Doesn't he need to backup his saves first? Are you sure Steam supports cloud saves for Mass Effect?

I reinstalled the game countless times because I was screwing around with mods, my saves were uneffected, everything worked just fine.
But one can make a backup just for safety.

Do you have MEUITM installed? It gave me the same kind of error all the time.

You have to go into the Documents/Bioware/Mass Effect/Config folder. Then make a backup of the BioEngine.ini by renaming it. Starting up the game will create a new BioEngine.ini.

The problem now is that you'll have low res textures everywhere despite having high res textures installed. You can fix this by altering the TextureLODSettings in the BioEngine.ini following the instructions in this guide.
