Why is Kaiden coming on to me?
I'm Paragon so I'm nice to everyone, but he's seriously pushing for a relationship with my femshep. It's something I'm trying to avoid as I intend to romance Garrus in 2 when the time comes, and I don't want to have to cheat on Kaiden to do it, but I don't want to be a Renegade douchebag to him either.

Am I going to have to off him on Virmire? Usually I let Ashley die, but he's getting pretty touchy, and I haven't seen Ashley in ME2 before. Is there a way to keep him from having a thing for femshep without being an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥?

Older BioWare games tend to force the player into a romance one way or the other, (either through confrontation or bugs), but it is still possible to turn down Kaiden. You have multiple opportunities as well.

Whether or not this is a Renegade action depends on you, but there's obviously going to be an affect on your relationship and conversations with said party member. While I haven't pursued Kaiden's path myself, all your squadmates and previous flings get over Shepard eventually, barring a bit of joking or the occasional argument.

That or, you know, you could just kill them.

The thing is, I don't want Kaidan to hate me when I blow it off. I still want to be good friends with him. I already sent Liara mixed signals (telling her Kaidan and I were just friends), and thankfully she hasn't pressured me yet, but if that becomes a problem then I might be irrevicably screwed.

Basically, I don't want the kiss/sex scene or the photo at the beginning of ME2, I want a non-relationship Femshep who is on good terms with everyone, no animosity, and then I will romance Garrus when the time comes and pursue it to the end of ME3.

But I don't want Kaiden or Liara to resent me for it. I'm willing to let Kaidan die if I have to, but Ashley called the Geth "blinking flashlights" which automatically earns her a thousand years of my unbridled wrath. So I'd MUCH rather her be the one I leave to die, as long as I can still blow it off with Kaidan without him hating me for it, even if I have to put him down hard.

I have yet to get an opportunity to put either of them down though. Virmire is my next mission, so if I'm going to get the chance to call it off with Kaidan, it has to be now.

My experience with all of them has been to just go with neutral/middle dialogue option. That keeps them from becoming too attached to you, Liara is exception, she confronts you anyway but can be turned down without causing any bad feelings. Other possible option is dont' ask about their personal matters too much, that way they won't pry into yours either and keeps them from going too much into possible romance path.

As I said, none of your potential romances will hate you and isn't necessary to kill any of them either. The final point before the romance is locked in for ME1 is when Shepard and the Normandy are grounded at the Citadel. A cutscene will trigger as your LI comes to console you.

Dismiss them as soon as you get the chance and the romance will be terminated. As long as you're not using mods and haven't been forced into choosing Liara as well, you should be free and good to go.

Is there any video footage of that scene? I can't seem to find any on YouTube, where Shepard blows it off. They really won't hate me after treating them like that, telling them to ♥♥♥♥ off?

The first game your options are Kaiden/Ashley or Liara. It didn't even dawn on them that people would want to romance Garrus until they started reading the fanfiction/deviantart... so they wrote it into ME2.

There are no lasting repercussions from any romance - and you can start/stop or change between and within the storyline. The worst you get is some jealous snark.

*Everybody* pretty much wants a piece of the Shep (or is at least willing) at some point in the game.

If you want to have a reality check on how far your romance is already persued (or was ninjamanced onto you), take the squadmate(s) in question to the Flux club on the Citadel and check out the dance floor (interact).

If a squadmember joins you dancing (well or what Shepard is doing on the stage anyway) then you are on track. If you don't like it, turn the squadmember down in the next conversation.
Sometimes there are conversation options about mixed signals or so. Just make sure, just being friends.

Or in case you really pursue two romances at the same time, the two of them will apporach you after a de-briefing in the com room at some point demanding a decision. That was hardly creepy at all ...

Anyway nobody gets angry at Shep or leaves your ship or isn't a friend anymore or deletes your harddrive.

What if they try to console me during Citadel lockdown and I go full renegade on them, pushing them away? They still won't hate me after that?

To stay out of a relationship With him use the middle text you'll be neutral with him so he won't get the wrong idea and u won't be a jerk.

If u don't want to make a new game kill him. Ashley isn't that bad in ME3 she has some great cut scene i

Well I'm planning to do a second playthrough anyway, to hopefully reach Level 60 by the end of Hardcore (I'm 40 at the end of Virmire so I don't know if I'm going to make it to 50 on this playthrough). What if I just accept the Kaidan romance for this playthrough, and on my second palythrough, I don't talk to Kaidan or Liara for the entire game, just do the side missions for Garrus/Wrex/Tali and dialogue with Ashley? Can I avoid their romance flags if I ignore talking to them throughout the game?

If you don't talk to them they won't form a relationship with you. I did that for awhile before I used the middle dialog option while talking to them

Okay, I killed the romance on the Citadel. I feel like a complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ for doing it, now Kaidan probably hates me, but it's done.

Second playthrough I'm just not gonna talk to him or Liara.
