NOTE:

If you have EA Origin, you MAY be able to claim this game on Origin with a registry key entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Electronic Arts\ea games\need for speed undercover\ergc

OR on a 32-bit machine:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\ea games\need for speed undercover\ergc

If this key (ergc) doesn't exist, log into EA Nation once inside Undercover and quit. It created it for me. Sadly- Origin said my key had already been claimed. This has happened to others too. It's luck of the draw.

Origin version has drawbacks and its own problems, anyway.

As someone who applied the 1.0.1.18 patch and the 1.1.2.1 patch on Steam's version I just want to add that save games may get corrupted and unexpected behaviour may occur such as:
- The wrong vinyls appearing on cars
- Game starting from the beginning
- Game crashing after police pursuits
- Bugged police pursuits
So make sure to backup your save games if you are planning on switching between these versions.

I also found if you go into properties of nfs.exe, go to compatability tab and check the box marked "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" then apply. it will now read any previous settings in game. i.e the settings you choose and save each time.

That is so awkward. The hell kind of bug is that. Haven't tested it myself, but might make note to test it on the default build if I'm ever in a situation where I have it again.

regedit.exe (Registry Editor) to open the registry, navigate the "directories" (keys) until you reach this point.

On the ergc key, there should be a string (to the right) with a CD key in it. You can try to claim this with Origin, it might work. If it's not present, read the note in regards to the EA Nation thing above.

Probably not, although you can download from the second link https://app.box.com/s/4wl9vy6cz9kpvj749ruczyh418fatrfr and just copy the stuff inside nfsucpatch folder into the game's root directory. Probably it being a "rare" installer and heuristics catching it for some reason.
