That DAT file contains all your settings (audio, video, controls, etc), your last saved game, and keeps track of the bags you've already collected. I imagine it has your time trials times too. Keep all that in mind when you delete the DAT file (or move it), because you'll be starting over fresh when you open the game again.
A new [username].dat file will be created when you start the game again. If you only move the DAT file instead of deleting, you can move it back when you want, like if you want race against your previous time trials or whatever.
If you're on a Mac, you're on your own. :P
I would copy and paste it somewhere else, and use it later. That way you can keep it, but still startover anytime you want.
